How much will my re-tax be?
« on: 18 March 2011, 17:48:25 »

2002, 3.2 MV6

Tax due end April.

I thought this was in the '£400 a year' bracket, but - the tax disc is showing around £120 for the prev 6 months.

What will I pay for 12 months tax? Has the £400 thing not come in yet?

Looks like it's band K - so £245?

Could have sworn I've seen people moaning on here about £400+ tax on Omegas, is this not the case?

The £400 tax bracket was due to come in on post 2001 cars. There was an outcry and it was moved to post 2006 cars.

IIRC

£134.75 for 6 months and £245 for one years RFL.
Omega's are in 'K' band as they emit more that 225g, post 2006 Vehicles emiting this amount pay the £400ish per year RFL. For example a '55' 2.8 V6 Turbo Vectra is £245 whereas a '56' one is £400. I think it may be nearer to £445, can't remember precisely. Taxed a post 2006 band K vehicle a few weeks ago and it was £400+

Was talking to a car dealer about this, it was changed to post 2006 cars after an outcry, but only postponed till april this year. So cars throwing out more than 225g of crap joined band K temporarily. Supposed to be clarified in the budget, but we know how the government keep changing things.

As far as I'm aware, if a car is categorised in Band K (Pre-2006), it will stay in Band K  :y

I think it's this bit that causes confusion:

Quote
Please note: All cars registered between March 2001 and March 2006 that produce more than 225g/km CO2, will temporarily join Band K in 2009 and 2010.

Because that implies that after 2010, cars registered between 03/01 and 03/06 and produce more than 225g/km CO2 could conceivably be put into band L and end up paying £425..

Depending on just how much the goverment of the day decides they want to **** the motorist. (Verb left to your own imagination ;D)

We won't know until the next budget, I suspect..

Interestingly, though, I didn't realise you could no longer get 6-month tax discs for most bands: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_10012524
