Non starting fiesta 1.8 diesel

just picked up a cheap p reg mk4 fiesta 1.8 diesel endura engine, it starts 1st time if its parked down hill but will not start if its facing uphill.
Does anyone have any ideas?

the fuel primer pump on top of the fuel filter is knackered,common fault caused by engine vibration,why ford put it there is a mystery

the fuel filter at the right hand side of the engine block with 2 pipes coming from it ? didnt notice anything on top of it apart from the two pipes

it normally has a black plunger on the top of it,if your's doesn't you still have an airleak somewhere which is allowing fuel to run back to the tank when pointing uphill,have a look at the injector leak off pipes to see if any are leaking or have gone hard
