lpg (Tartarini) waterworks
« on: 29 March 2011, 21:24:13 »

Elite Pete has recently replaced my thermostat (cheers mate) and whilst it is now heating up properly, my lpg is switching over a lot slower from cold.
Now I know the thermostat has to open but even when it does the pipe that i have going to the vapouriser stays cold for a good ten mins after thermostat has opened.
The vapouriser is situated under the airbox and i have a pipe from the pipe that runs across the top of the radiator to the bottom of the vapouriser and then up to the main feed from the header tank, I think because it is lower than the rest of the system it is having to wait until full circulation before it will operate.
Can those of you that have v6 lpg cars please tell me which pipes you are getting your feeds from.
Hope this makes sense  TIA Des :y

Not really plumbed correctly TBH :-[

Need to take the feed from the "Helter skelter" pipe that feeds the HBV :y

You'd have to check that that vaporiser will flow sufficiently (most do) to run it in series before the HBV to get maximum efficiency and quickest switchover time :y

Agreed .. incorrectly plumbed... mine switches over (from cold) within 1/2 a mile in summer and a maximum of about a mile/mile and a half in this last winter .. when the indicated temp was -10° C !!!

Sounds like another "professional" conversion. ::)

As said, you'll only get a dribble through that pipe, and only when the thermostat is well open. Fixing the thermostat has made matters worse for this reason.

It needs to be plumbed as per Lazydocker's description. :y

The way it is now the pipe that runs across the top of the rad gets hot right along its length before it goes downwards from the t piece, if you know what i mean?
If i conect it to the helter skelter pipe then down to the vapouriser and then back up, should this warm up before thermostat opens?

Yes, this circuit flows water as soon as the engine starts and you'll be running on LPG long before the thermostat opens.

Yep... But you must make sure the flow through the vaporiser will be sufficient :y

What is the bore of the inlet pipes? If the same as the normal coolant pipe it should be fine :y

I'm fairly sure Tartarini are OK :-/

Just to confirm what has already been said. Mine was plumbed after the hbv and took a long time to switch over to LPG and actually switched back to petrol quite often. I plumbed it into the helter skelter pipe and its been fine since. :y
