Sourced a tank
« on: 30 March 2011, 13:15:27 »

Right, the fun begins, I have sourced a tank.

It's a 90 litre cylinder, with a 400 diameter.
It is a 4 hole tank, made by Stako. Comes with valves and airtight box.

New (but old) stock - £90 + VAT to me. Good?  :y

Question is - can I use my existing tank frame (which is for a 100l 400 dia) - or will the straps be too close to the edges?

Cheers,
James

Mines rotated to over-fill a tad, as I always do at least 20/30 miles after filling up, from empty I can get 74L, which is a range of about 360-400 miles  :)

Which way would you rotate it, to do that?

backwards (towards the back seats) so the airtight box pointed higher in the boot. It means the ball-cock system had higher to go before it shut off the fill

Depends where in the tank the float ends up when it's full, I guess.

You won't gain much unless you change the angle of the pickup pipe either. It'll just start sucking vapour earlier and switch back to petrol.

72l is the 80% fill level for a 90l tank.

Many thanks Kev

More than happy with 72 litres. That's a range of 316 miles at 20mpg!  :y

Yes, good price James.

Tunnie, yours is a 90L, 360mm Dia tank ;)

Rotating it for an overfill is dangerous and not something I could advise with a clear conscience :y :y

To Add, that's the size I have. Mine underfills by about half a litre and I get around 300 miles on my normal running around (Fast A roads with lots of roundabouts and Town use) and have managed over 380 (without running out) on a fast run down through Europe :y :y

I'll send you a PM in a moment Jim ;) ;)

I'd advise the 80L cylinder tank as best compromise between range and space/ease of fitting :y :y
