Omega vs Subaru
« on: 21 April 2011, 09:28:39 »

A mate of mine picked me up yesterday in his WRX GTi whatever. . Now I was sat in the passenger seat waiting to feel sick and yet it didn't happen. I actually told him that Obi my MV6 I am sure would not be shaken by it.
I thought these cars were fast?
At a place I know I have driven plenty of times at the speed limit he was doing no more. . My have to put Obi in the position  :D

Poverty engine spec ones are only 220-230bhp iirc

Very few are the full on 270bhp+ ones.

I've kept up with plenty of them on 'motorways' in the 50-70mphish blat in a V6.

Off the line you will loose out but once rolling its anyones guess (uless there are some bends!! ;D)

yep .. they are fast.. engines "interesting" .. but they are nothing more than a coke can..  will prefer omega everytime..

and one more thing.. if I want something really fast , I would consider a bike -which occupies my head nowadays and is a debate subject between wife and me..  :-/ (thinking of Yamaha YZF R1)

if I die , you are responsible OOF bikers ;D ;D

(thinking of Yamaha YZF R1)
I test rode both an R1 and an R6 for a friend just before he passed his test, and I would highly recommend the R6 over the R1.

Yes the R1 is faster in a straight line, but unless your roads are long & straight then the R6 will take the R1 any day thanks to it's shorter wheelbase and reduced weight over the R1.
The R6 is no sloth either, I was taken by surprise at how quickly I found myself the wrong side of 120mph, and I've been riding 37 years.

I know that my old 3.0 Carlton diamond estate upset a scooby off the lights one "track day" [1]
I was a good 100 yards in front of him until I reached the first corner - the carlton didn't really do corners  :(

I have no problem with scoob's. my mate has a mega wrx sti rally thing that he thinks the world oh. He still cant touch me init. that upsets him a bit. but then most will get upset when they see a 17 year old omega roar past them.  ::)

I would completely disagree with that.Having riden both - the R6 is similar to riding an old 2 stroke, you need to be constantly revving the tits off it and going up and down through the box to make good progress, great little track bike, but can be hard work on the road. The R1 is only about 10kg heavier, which isnt noticeable at all, particularily with all the extra torque and bhp, lower down the rev range - open it up in almost any gear and hang on tight. The wheelbase on the bigger bike is approx 13mm longer (probably to help keep the front wheel on the ground) which may be noticeable on the track, wouldnt make much odds on the road, apart from making it a bit less flighty over the bumps.
An R1 imo will leave an R6 in its wake in most situations, and be a much more fun in the process.
Having said all that - Cem, if your not very experienced and you buy an R1, you may well go out in style. They are savagely fast, and the grunt from the engine will be addictive. There is a good chance you will either lose your license or hurt yourself, or worse. ;)
