Audi A3 loopy electrics
« on: 03 May 2011, 14:43:13 »

1.8turbo petrol 97 3door

Air bag light on the dash but the problem currently is a random abs light that coincides with no head lights. Sides work but no main or high  beam when the abs light is on. Turn the ignition off and wait, re start and all appears to be well. Apart from the constant air bag light of course.

It's had the fuse strips replaced on top of the battery, so am about to dis connect the battery and leave it standing for half hour. This worked very well on Mrs G's golf and killed all the flashing lights and stalling gremlins on her auto polo.

Trouble is it's got an aftermarket radio and no code to be found, any other ideas while we trace the radio instruction manual....?

Ta

Now in the right section. ::)

Hmm, fuses do not blow for no reason.

Sounds like a ground issue possibly but, could also be a short/damaged wiring.

Those metal plate fuses are known for cracking, so may have been arcing across the gap perhaps....? The other 3 inboard are under stress as the nut tightens, they are distorted slightly.  :-/

If they genuinely blew then I'll need to find the relevant function and trace that circuit through for clues, ESP if relevant to the current problems.

Although the lights worked and the abs light stayed off tonight so fingers crossed.

After driving the A3 around for a week, and feeling that the ride was rather firm, and also knowing that the ride in mine is considerably firmer than stock Elite, and being interested to compare, I can't tell you how glad I was to drive mine again, sooo soft and smooth, roomy, leg room and head room, quiet, comfy seats, power... Aaaah, I love my car. :-*
