LPG ecu location
« on: 12 May 2011, 12:31:02 »

Under the power sounder. Bolted to the wheel arch. Thoughts?

There is a drain there from the scuttle. Going to be difficult to miss the water flow. However it would mean injector wiring can come in from behind the plenum. And there's just enough loom to reach the fuse box ecu plug. Only thing will be getting the wires round the pollen filter box.

Also wiper mech may well have to come out to drill mounting holes. :-/

Tbh, I still think the best location is where we've been mounting them :-/

Has anybody ever mounted it on the side of the air filter box, inner wing side ?

Looks like they might be room  :-/
It should be dry and at least it shouldn't get trashed if you have a small front end bump  :-/

Was wondering about another option, mounted to the support/webs on the moulding of the fan assembly behind rad with two L shaped brackets. There room between that and the intakes just left of multi ram as you look in the engine bay. Bit warm maybe?

Certainly wheel arch lining area is simpler as there'll be extra length of wiring to hide, or bugger about shortening and re fitting plugs. :-/

At the end of the day it's your car... To me it seems a bit "Bodgy" so I'll be mounting it behind the front bumper as I have with all the previous ones I've done... It's tried and tested :y

I want as much as possible hidden away as before so it's not visible ;)

I did consider the other side though :-/

The ECU is water tested and fine as long as the connector is down ;)

As for trashing it in a bump... If you manage to trash the ECU in a front end shunt you have much bigger things to worry about ;)

chrisgixer - remember, the instructions say to mount vertical, with connectors pointing downwards.  This is what might knacker your chances with finding other locations.

Mounted just in front of self levelling pump is tried and tested, but you will need to extend cables should you want the wires to from the back of the plenum

I'm not sure if I'm imagining it, but ISTR that the rear of the plenum is shaped and getting the loom in under there might be a bit tight :-/ :-/

Multiram is also there ready to get jammed in the wires...  ...personally, I am liking TBE's method more and more, esp when I had to pop out the inlet maifold yesterday :D

I like the method and if the loom is prepared in advance I think it's probably advantageous and quicker :y

Ohh... Manifold out.... Oil Cooler?

Either make the brackets to mount it or attach it to the wheel arch liner... Important thing is that the plug is pointing downwards :y

How about inside the air filter box? That's where the engine ECU lives on her Smart, it's dry & gets a cooling air flow.  :-/

Just a suggestion.  :y
