MOT time is almost upon me 

I think it's a little bit touch and go weather Wots will pass or not, my main concerns are my blowing exhaust manifold gasket and the marks in my windscreen (not in the drivers line of sight though). I know the exhaust is all good now thanks to Rob 

One question that the LPGer's might know; Can the emmisions test be performed whilst running on gas? And if I gave it to the MOT man running on gas would he notice and switch it back to petrol I just think it'll help my chances if the fanimold gasket is going to cause me a problem... I'll definately get it nice and hot before I hand it over to them anyway 

I'm really not a fan of MOT's, mainly because it means entrusting my car with a garage

You can have it tested on gas, but if the manifold blow is substantial it will fail

The emissions test should be carried out on whichever fuel it is presented on... Tell the tester that you are presenting it running on LPG and that's what it should be tested on

Thanks guys I will do. I wouldn't say the manifold blow is substantial, once the engine's nice and warm it's not really noticeable. When you say it will fail, will it fail on emissions or due to the fact it's blowing?

Thinking about it I better remove my air freshener that's hanging from the rear view mirror as i've been caught out by that in the past

I don't think you're alone there - I do believe a certain admin had a similar problem!

I've been doing some research and from what I understand if I present the car running on LPG it should be tested on the pre-cat emissions test, does that sound right? As LPG is a cleaner burning fuel I'm presuming that it has more chance of passing than on petrol? I think my engine's fairly healthy anyway but the emissions test is always a concern of mine.

Are there any other stupid MOT checks that i'm not aware of? Screenwash level perhaps??

I know it's not, I just don't want to get failed on something very stupid. LD, have you had yours tested whilst running on lpg?  Would you expect the CO and HC to be lower than petrol?

I went to tank up on lpg yesterday and was waiting behind a BMW X5. As he began filling I saw the lpg pishing out underneath the car, so obviously I got out and let him know and he said he'd only just got it back from the bmw garage. I'm sure the garage must have known they'd damaged the tank/lines at the time as it would have been pishing out there and it stinks! You would have thought at £105 per hour labour rate your car would be in safe hands

I've had LPG cars for about 5/6 years now so had loads of tests done It's a Basic Emissions Test (at present) so no need to worry

As for the BMW... Not a surprise. I don't trust garages 100%, full stop, let alone main dealers

I've just returned from the garage... and he passed with no advisories!ll           

The mechanic even commented on how clean and solid he is underneath  8-)

Yep. Got my bumper resprayed earlier in the year due to the Micra incident. Decided to re-wire my towing electrics yesterday and whereas the pipe from the towbar-mounted LPG filler was nicely routed out of the way before it's now bulging down and likely to bottom out on the ground.

Bracket for the break-away cable has gone completely.

.. and the towing connector was on upside-down (and hence filling with water).

This is from one of the few places I'd trust to work on my car at all.

Nobody within the motor trade appears to take any pride in a job well done.
