Vec-c 3.2 cambelt change help
« on: 14 June 2011, 18:32:47 »

Hi all I know this is not the forum for me but was advised from the guys at vec-c to pop on and make a request as ya such a friendly bunch  :) im currently driving a 3.2 gsi and its needing a timing belt change along with the water pump. its a big ish job and a garage costs a heap of cash so was wondering if anyone on here would like to earn some extra cash and do the job for me. i know it requires the cam locking tools which i do not have. i know my way around a car but am no way brave enough to even attempt it. I live up in the north east of scotland and can travel a bit if required.

so if anyone is intrested in helping out let me know, cheers guys, Tim

You may have difficulty as Omegas are a LOT easier to change belts on and I know I would not try one despite doing my own car.

However there is Scottish member who did change one on a 2.5 Vectra but he is rarely on Markie I think.

I guess the North East of Scotland ::) ::)

TBH, I'd be willing to do it if he were nearer and my back was OK... The Vectra probably isn't much more work than the Omega, but you'll almost certainly have to take the engine mount off

Thanks for showing intrest tho chaps, even if you are in another country lol. Not looking to get it done for a bout 4 weeks. Got a really good price on my kit and a brand new pump from a fellow member on vec c. So things going good so far. If the worst happens I will put it into this little backstreet garage I found in arbroath seems to know his stuff but you never know I suppose.

Last thing I need is my pride and joy destroyed by some school leaver working in a garage who thinks he knows what he's doing!

No more difficult than omega, just a bit tighter due to transverse.

Iirc, engine mount needs to come off

I am guessing Dundee sort of area given the username (could be a red herring though!)

Takes about the same time all in, MAF and trunking off, airfilter housing out, front wheel off, inner wheel arch liner off, support engine, engine mount off and then same as the Omega for the belt etc.

You could pretty much do it yourself with the Omega DVD and the above information.

Locking kit is a must though to get it done well, reliably and timed up right.

You guys are getting me all fired up to do it myself lol I'm not shy when it comes to working on a car just 4 cams scare me lol so what is this DVD your onabout? I can get hold of an engine brace, one that goes across the wings. But posting up on a few of the other forums to track down a v6 cam and crank locking kit. See if I can borrow one. Got most of the other tools that would be required and could save myself a fair packet so am really looking into it. Cheers :)

I reckon the engine brace will get in your way, jack the car and place on stands and use trolley jack and wood spreader under the sump to hold the engine up :y
