my 159 is being naughty
« on: 28 June 2011, 12:32:24 »

Hope its not a sign of things to come, ment to be fairly reliable now, but my alfa has put its orange engine check light on, and is down on power booo, waiting to hear from garage when i can take it in on warranty.
hope its nothing big, its had a new turbo, isnt smokey or making bad noises, just doesnt want to go very fast lol
its the JTDm engine also used in the vectra iirc. i may take out a private warranty when mine runs out  :( ;D

EGR valve stuck or swirl valves goosed I would guess.

One of the more reliable diesel units of the modern era those.

Lol, well thats not going to cuase power loss!

The glow plugs on these are monitored in pairs for info and easy to sort.

Yes, fault codes would be stored (easily viewable on the Vx's using the pedal trick, might be worth a go on the Fiats to).

The swirl flaps are only present on the 16V (150bhp) and not the 8V (120bhp)

they said a fault was showing on a sensor (i keep thinking they said MAF but not sure) but couldnt find fault with the sensor, but found a small hole in one of the hoses from turbo or intercooler.

so i currently have a new shape panda 1.3 diesel....

Oh dear, they dont sound very compitent!

Do be aware that when the EGR sticks you get an inlet air system leak detected fault code........which cna lead to willy nilly part changes in the hands of those who dont have a clue.

they dont seem very good lol, warranty ends next month anyway, so will get my own and use a alfa specialist thats pretty well priced. i just left a message asking, and reminded him about EGR valve sticking and added about what fault code would read,
thanks for advice, really want my car back! the audi is nice, but i much preffer the alfa lol

so, i got a call, "due to the turbo problem (hose) the car couldnt regen diesel partic filter which sent the other codes on, we have plugged it in to regen and it should all be done for collection at 5"

this is after i told them about the egr and what it might show as, and i told him last time i got a message saying "partic filter bloked" then it regend itself. surely it would show that message if that was the fault? anyway i told them what you said, so if they want to keep changing parts aslong as it comes back pretty soon meh lol will get some miles under it this month before warranty runs out make sure its done ok.

If the particulate filter (DPF) was blocked then you would get the fault code related to it.

If the EGR is leaking then the DPF cloggs much faster

yeh everything you said makes sence, which is why i really want to get loads of miles on it before warranty ends, to make sure its been done properly.

but, if warranty ends, is ti a easy job the EGR? as in garage labour and parts?

cheers

Dead easy, do it yourself.

On a Zaf it takes about 30 minutes and that is more involved!

On the Alfa, Astra, Vec etc its easier!
