Omega Vs Vectra 2.2dti engine
« on: 21 July 2011, 14:19:53 »

I'm looking at buying a 53 plate Vectra C 2.2 dti SRi with 99k on the clock, from a trusted colleague at work.  He has had the car for 5 years and it's been completely fault free. It's got a dealer history up to 80k (when he bought it) and then its been serviced by his dad (ex police mechanic). I have no reason to dis-believe him (especially as I am his boss!!)

Will this have the same engine as the 2.2dti Omega?

Can you do the pedal trick with this model, and will any fault codes be the same?

Anything I should be looking out for in particular (not just the engine but the whole car as I've not owner a Vectra before)?

TIA  :y

Ehen you say older engine, what do you mean? I know the 1.9 cdti is a newer engine than the 2.2, but surely the 2.2 in the Vectra C can't be older than the 2.2 in an Omega???

I've been warned off the 1.9 cdti by a few people, saying it's incredibly problematic.  :-/

last year  i thought id upgrade my 51 plate 2.2 petrol omega for a 06 vectra 1.9 cdti 150
faults i had where

1.. alternator belt snapped due to bottom pulley failing cost 189.00

2.. erg valve stuck open and fooked up dpf valve cost 996.00

3.. swirl valve in manifold came of rod (common fault) needed new updated manifold cost 768.00

4.. rear n/s caliper seized cost 163.00

all costs included fitting by main dealers

the caliper /belt&pully where covered under my AA warranty and £500 was paid towards the manifold job by the AA .
but only the cost of the erg valve was covered as they say the dpf valve is classed as exhaust parts

all this from a one owner full vauxhall service history and verified mileage car . all in less than 2k  >:(

the 150bhp model has the fiat engine fitted with dreaded swirl valve . been told the 120bhp model don't have them so a better buy me thinks .
i would rather walk in the rain to the bus stop before i buy another vectra diesel  >:( :D

Agree with above, my mate has spent a fortune. They also demolish their dual mass flywheels like no tomorrow.

2.2DTi in an Omega or Frontera is a Y22DTH
2.2DTi in any other Vauxhall is a Y22DTR

Main difference is the Y22DTH is chain driven.

As you say, front wheel drive 2.2 diesels are DTR, rwd and 4x4 uses the DTH. Both engines have timing chains but there are differences to the balance shaft setup.

Ah ok, not had any experience with chain driven cars before. I asume that the chain is designed to last the life of the car then?

Yep... At high mileages they can stretch but i've seen 350K examples on ebay that seems to prove their longetivity.

Personally I think it's luck of the draw on what you get, I ran a 2008 Astra Van with the 1.9 CDTi 150, that never ever gave me any problem and was one of the most reliable things I've owned, that was on 55k when it got sold, my 2010 Astra Van 1.9 CDTi 185 on 18,000 however does give me problems, white smoke when it's cold and a clicking noise which I believe to be the turbo.
