breather system into carb (chev v8)
« on: 02 August 2011, 15:49:34 »

righto chaps, on my boat engines each valve cover has a breather pipe that comes out and into the lpg mixer, now ive removed das lpg system but havnt got a flame arrestor for each engine yet so the mixers are still sat ontop.
i found KN do some proper marine flame arrestors but with no where for the pipes to attach to, so i think i can just get some little baby filters that pop ontop the valve covers where the pipes would come out.
is there any pros and cons to not having the breather system going into the carbs?
there isnt much cold air being forced into the engine bay so less hot fumes going back in the better?
or there are some flame arrestors with the two bits for the pipes to go in but they are a bit more money.

thanking you

You will get some nasty fumes from the crank case, perhaps not at idle but certainly when giving them some stick. Better off burning it, IMHO.

Are flame arresters a marine requirement? Can't say I've ever seen anything more than a baffle plate under the rocker cover to stop it ingesting too much oil or a catch tank on a car install.
