My 3.2MV6 was shut down by a 3 series BMW
« on: 28 July 2011, 20:44:09 »

Tonight on an empty dual carriageway i had just joined from a roundabout, i had a T plate 328 tailgaiting very close. I thought 'we'll soon sort you out' and hit the sport mode.

I am gutted to say that from 30 to 80mph (at which point i levelled off my speed) the BMW stuck to my bumper like glue, easily gaining on me before speeding off into the distance, grinning, like i was stood still :(

maybe she is still not running at full potential. I need to drive another and compare.

you hit the sport mode, so I guess yours is auto..

an 328 manual (193 hp as stock E36, E46 ) easily beat 330 auto (231 hp as stock E46)..  so no worries imo..

also it can be modded in every way..   so dont think you are slow :y

I agree you're being overly harsh on the mig if you had said 318 yes then you would have reason to worry.

The Omega is also quite a bit heavier bear that in mind, auto box slows it down some, and 328i's were very quick in their day and still are, but a 3.2 manual would've been a different story  :y

Didnt realise they were as quick as that. was thinking around the 7 second mark for the manual.

there are various resources on the net.. but I know they are well below 7 secs.. as one mechanic friend buys and sells them frequently..

ps : also specs change according to region due to emission standards etc..

Yeah, a manual 328 should beat an auto 3.2 Omega.

As well as the loses in the autobox, for a wide speed range, the auto gears are too long for those sorts of silly beggers.

Shame the Omega never had a 5 speed auto fitted really, would've made a hell of a difference  :(

Yeah, the plod ones, esp with LSD (lowers gearing) is a hell of a beast for acceleration, if you can keep traction, and don't destroy the clutch in the process...

On a T plate would make it an E36 328.

Back in the day my mate had a E36 325 convertible, and that went the the proverbial!!! I'd be surprised if even a manual 3.2 mig would keep pace with a 328!  :-/
