Found an MV6 '97...Pfff it's an automatic!
« on: 11 August 2011, 21:17:56 »

Hi Guys  :y
As some of you know, currently I'm a searchin' for a nice Miggy and I have come across this little lady (Remember I live in Madrid) http://www.milanuncios.com/opel-de-segunda-mano/opel-omega-3-0-mv6-aut-26330718.htm
I know some of you are not so keen about an MV6 "automatic" .....But are they really that bad?

The owner says the car is in perfect running order and is up to date with the service book. It's a 97 so I need to check a few things (Any suggestions where to check from you seasoned experts?)

But I'm really (Deep in my heart) looking for a car that will turn into a neat project. Is the MV6 a good choice and is 97 too old?

What do you guys think?

Best regards
Anthony :y

Looks like CDX to me with those wheels, but then again Euro specs are different.  :-/

You really want to get a mini facelift which is post 1998, much better kit.

As for auto, get what you want, not what others want  :y

As Tunnie said go for a 98 on mini facelift if possible. Autos have thier place in a big comfy car like the Omega. I personally would be happy with an auyo CDX/Elite but feel the MV6 withs it's fimer suspension etc. suits the manual box better.

One for cruising & one for bruising. That said if you find a good MV6 auto & your'e happy with it then enjoy the kickdown!!!! 8-)

To make a auto a bit more drivable especially on the twisty bit select 2nd gear ( it will still kick down into 1st and is capable of 80MPH ) press the sport button and turn off the T.C and enjoy, but whatever you do DONT repeat DONT look at the fuel consumption on the MID :o

I never had instant fuel consumption showing on either the old 2.5 or the MV6. Tried it once when winding the Beastie through the gears...7mpg!!!!! ::) Left it on outside temp after that!

I drive both regularly.  I prefer my manual gearbox over Jimbobs auto.  It's a lot more fun and responsive when being seriously driven.  The auto is nice to drive in traffic and when just sat on motorways etc.
I wouldn't walk away from a nice MV6 if it was an auto and as Tony says there are ways of getting the performance you want.

My mini-facelift is a much nicer feeling car to drive than the facelift too. :y

You're all forgetting that an Opel MV6 isn't the same as a Vauxhall MV6. Opel didn't do an Elite, but called their equivalent MV6  :y :y :y

No idea what Opel called their sportier version ......  :-/ :-/

It'd be a lot easier in the traffic of Madrid in an auto mate  ;D

Experienced that city myself, wouldn't want to try it in a big car like the Omega  :P

Thanks for the input guys.
My last Miggy (in the UK) was a P reg Vauxhall Automatic 2.5 (if I remember well) let her go in 2004. She drove like a dream but it's true I was driving all over the north of England via the motorways. Didn't mind the automatic then plus I'm not a so youngy chap so reliability, strength and comfort (with a nice clean look) are more important to me than racin' it around.

@Tunnie: What's the CD? Specs good? I can't see if the interior is in good nick from the pics but will check it in person in the next few days. Are there any pics of a pre- 98 MV6 with a mini-facelift anywhere on the forum that you can point me to?

Thanks for the input. Keep it coming guys

Best regards
Anthony

CD Spec (one picture looks like CDX) is fairly basic, in fact its only one above base spec!

Here in the UK, MV6 was not launched until 1998 with the mini-facelift.

So specs here tend to be very different to Europe.

Perhaps Cem knows more about what kind of spec you get over there?

Thanks Tunnie
It could be that it had a "wheel change" when the guy selling it now got it cos he's a mini car dealer I think.
I will chk it out and look at the "log book" as such. Maybe late 97 was when the MV6 six arrived here in Spain for the first time and Opel didn't present it with the "looks" but just the engine and drive. Interesting! But those wheels do look like they gotta go.  ;D

Can ya point me to a 3.0 MV6 97-98 with a mini-facelift for an idea? (or anyone)

Best regards
