Booked in with WIM
« on: 13 August 2011, 16:37:26 »

For Monday lunchtime with 4 new boots ordered as well.  They first tried to recommend falkens to which I mentioned that some on here had bad experiences with them.  So I settled on some kumho kh 31 s.  Anyone tried these? Reviews on the net seem positive.....

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with those, I need a fresh set of boots soon-ish. How much are they a corner?

Give Tony the usual OOF regards  :y

Are they really as bad as Chris makes out?  Or is he showing the stress of Jamie's grooming and over-reacting?  ::)

We have them on:

My 2.2, father T's 2.2 & Mother T's FWD box (not the Elite Estate)

Personally we have had no issues, they are very quiet, smooth, and grip well. As we have 4 pots they are not exactly put under much stress! Also father T just does weekly runs along motorway to Birmingham Airport, so again, not much stress.

Got about 35k ish from fronts so far on mine, not as good as the Goodyears I had before. Got about 25k (might be 30k, can't be sure  :-[) from rears, again not brilliant.

I think there maybe some difference in size though, we all have 16's, fatboy has 17's - So maybe their issues are magnified with larger tyre?  :-/

Possibly, the Kumhos are going on 16s so I will report pre-WIM (cp641's that came with the car) and after  :y

Had Kumo's on a 3.0 Elite Estate for a while (when I had one of MaxV6's old estates) Brand spankers, I found them too unpredictable, would let go suddenly. Although that could be the drivers error  ::)  ;D

Yes, they really are that bad.

I seem to have an undeserved reputation for driving hard, but the Falkens couldn't even be driven sedately either. Actually, the Falkens just couldn't be driven at any speed I tried (only about a mile, I refused to drive it any further).

Got KU31s on the Rover, seem OK on that.  Toying with slapping a (temporary) set on the rear of the Elite to get that back on the road.

I really liked the KU31's very grippy in all weathers and quiet. not so great in the snow but acceptable.

Right I am back from WIM.  Tony wasn't there unfortunately but I asked that greetings from the forum be passed on.

Ok once up on the ramp almost everything was well out which I expected from the replacement of most parts and the smell of the tyres.  Interestingly the rns camber was well out, 2deg49' something which is unadjustable apparently.  He suggested changing springs?

The rear toe-in could not be done as the arms are jammed solid >:( so I will be looking to change these at some point :'(

The fronts worryingly took several attempts and was only possible after the sub frame had been adjusted.  To my knowledge the rear subframe has not been touched but you never know what the previous owner did to your car, so.

Amasingly the toe on both sides was 1deg50 ish before hand :o but are now sitting pretty at 0deg10

Before it was very wallowy lacking feedback and it would tramline like a bugger not to mention creaping to the nearside.  Now the steering is sharp and confident, I can take roundabouts at 40 not problem and there is no tramlining :y

The steering wheel was off before and I mentionned this before he started.  It is better but still a bit off which was disappointing.  On my old 405 you could take the steering wheel nut off and adjust it that way, can this be done with miggys?

The new tyres seem pretty good, Kumho KH31s at £84 a corner.  I had to drive sedately on the way back as I was towing a small trailer with the new wheels on but once back I parked that away and took it out for a spin.  The tyres held up to some pretty bad abuse, and they didnt make half as much noise as the CP461s I had on before and wow there is a lot of grip.  I havent pushed them hard enough to see when they let go yet but if they hold up to the way I just drove I can see them handling my normal driving style very well  :y
