Jaime is not happy unless he's 'fettling'. It's the way some fellas are, no use trying to stop him. A new car would take this pleasure, and it is a pleasure, away from him. So leave him alone, he's only happy when things break.

Today I have been abusing the Battlebus on steep, narrow roads.  Mullered the brakes, and knackered the economy, but its behaving remarkably well.

Could definitely have used those missing horses today though, so need to have a poke around the turbo when I get home, along with grinding down the caliper mounting bracket to make the pads sit a little better on the back.

You know you could just get something decent and new and not spend 80% of your time repairing 3 rusting wrecks  ;D
Firstly, we've already proved there is nothing out there that isn't a compromise on what I already have, certainly with a £10k budget. We've done long threads over the past year, and nobody came up with anything remotely close to a viable replacement, only the badge snobbery shite they personally desired.

Secondly, I'd wager that the bus has virtually no more rust on than a much newer, poor mans Pisshat.

Many decent examples out there, someone just needs to accept it and move out of the 1990's  :y

My CC is more comfy than the Omega, faster mid-range, far better sound insulation and is almost 3x better on fuel.

I know I don't have to grind down calipers or tinker with car every week.  :P :)

Nobody managed to mention one last year ;)

Nope, nope, nope and not 3 times, in that order.  I know what economy I get from a 2l TDi A6, suspect a compromised Pisshat is similar, and I reckon pence per mile aint far off - 18mpg @ 51.9ppl v 42mpg @116.7ppl (todays prices locally)

Even when M3 is broke, I do stop start around the lanes on my 25/30 mile commute, never once had it that low.

Easily mid 50's - Low 60's in the summer and yes it's more comfy and faster and less noise at speed. I do drive both quite often you know  ::)

Many a time arrive home in the CC, then jump in 3.2 to take MrsT and Little MissT out. Direct comparisons.

Cant do anything at the moment apart from collecting bits. I have plod spec front springs & dampers, Pedders Monaro top mounts and a new n/s/f hub all ready to fit. Just awaiting delivery of top mount bearings from Germany and then I can get stuck in and get it all done in one hit.
Then it will be wheel alignment  - again. Triggers broom MK.2.  ::)

You don't need to justify your mistake purchase to me (or anyone else).

As said, I know what a 2.0TDi A6 returns for me. I suspect a Passat is no different, unless you bought it from Imber Enterprises, in which case a Ferrari won't keep up, and returns 200mpg.

I guess comfort is subjective, but you once said a Plod spec Volvo was the comfiest thing on the planet ;D.  Certainly I didn't find a Passat comfortable for any length of time.  More comfortable than a Zafira-A, but less comfortable than, say, a base Insignia which I took to South of France and back (the long distance comfort factor on that was a real surprise, as initially I thought I wasn't going to get settle in the seat).  The MFL MV6 leather is pretty hard to beat, based on a 15hr non stop (ish - stopped for lunch, and comfort breaks) drive. But I maintain the pinnicle of comfort of any car seat ever is MFL Elite cloth. Not even a Citroen DS can match the comfort of that.

As to noise, I'm guessing your tappets haven't improved on the 3.2?  I reckon, despite the recontoured mirrors, the PFL is better for windnoise than the FL - certainly my MV6 and my old TD created virtually no wind noise (though the TD did make tractor noises), and Goldie and TBE do.  The biggest source of noise from the Bullet is those Valtek injectors mounted on that metal plate, and some tyres.

(The biggest source of noise from TBE is the disco she has in the car ;D)

As to being faster, it may accelerate better in higher gears, but a V6 will be quicker between any speeds anywhere up to 130mph (by which time I suspect the VW has run out of steam anyway) as long as you are in a suitable gear.  That's the difference between petrol and diesel.

Tappets still same, wind noise and external traffic noise is significantly more in 3.2. Came home in VW, jumped in 3.2 to pop to Costco, I thought a window was open initially. But nope, all fine, just loud.

You also tend to go against every review or standard expectation, Ford Focus being an example  :y  Most people think they are great, good handling cars. Yet you don't  :-\

My car share buddy's BMW 235i would destroy any Omega, but somehow I know you would say your MV6 is better  ;D

ROFL.  ;D

Can't be that. It doesn't run on rails. ;)

The only people who genuinely believe the Focus is a great handling car is those who thought the FWD Escorts were great handling. Yup, compared to them, the Focus handling is better and marginally more predictable.  I thought Mrs TB's one was duff, as everyone claimed it handled great...  ...but then her brother's one was identical, the one at work was similar, the hire cars have been similar.  I personally think its the space saving, but utter shite, rear suspension that everyone raves about.  There is a school of thought that it shouldn't matter what the back is doing with FWD, but whereas most cars can be placed inch perfect in corners at moderately quick speeds, the Focus is hard to get foot perfect.

My car share buddy's BMW 235i would destroy any Omega, but somehow I know you would say your MV6 is better  ;D
Guessing its slightly lighter than a 335i, so, yup, will leave it for dust at any speed.

But I wouldn't own one as they (modern 3 series and 1 series, not driven a 2) are rock hard, I find them uncomfortable, unlike beemers of old.
