Mine doesn't need to do that because it is drum based and therefore more reliable >:D

Had a heart attack over the new mokka. It's been saying there was an update ready for the (infotainment?) system since yesterday, so decided to let it install. 5%, 25%, 75%, 100%, done. Well.........do something then, go back to the main screen or something. No. It sat with the 100% update completed. No buttons worked, the car would not start. Dead, nothing........

Seems to be a common issue with them. My wife's friend had a brand new one for a short time and hers did the same when she did the OTA updates. She phoned the dealer and they told her to lock it and leave it for an hour, but it actually took longer than that. It started after an hour but the screen was still blank. The screen occasionally flickered as well. She got fed up with it after taking it in to be checked a few times and decided to get rid. Luck of the draw I suppose.  :-\
That's really handy if you need to use the car in an  emergency.

……..
Most cars will make a lot of warning noises if you do pull on the EPB when in motion.  And most I've driven require the switch to be held in the apply position, and will immediately release when the switch is release when applied with car moving, being a different way of working than when the car is at standstill.
……

Well well, I wasn’t aware of that. Every day’s a school day.  :y  I’ve just watched a video clip of this very thing. Apparently, when the EPB is applied momentarily whilst driving, the vehicle uses the ABS function to slow down the vehicle safely, but then automatically releases it, assuming that the driver is a pillock and did it in error.  ::)  As TB said, if you hold the EPB, the vehicle assumes that it’s intentional and safely brings the speed down at a faster rate.
So to conclude, it wasn’t my lightening reaction which deactivated the EPB, it was the car.  ;D  And the clunk that I felt, was the auto box showing its displeasure at being stopped without prior warning. I recognise that clunk from when I did a rapid change of direction using the handbrake in my Omega. It had a different type of auto box but that was equally unhappy with my style of driving as well.  ;D

So, a simple air filter change means hers is now off the road, awaiting parts.  So she took mine to the shops, and that's now run out of brake pads, so that's also off the road*

Bloody cars.

*only a pad warning, and I have pads and a sensor, but no discs, and the disc has a fair lip so will wait for those to arrive.  But she won't drive it with a brake warning on.  Women. Can't live with them, can't shoot them.

I melted it in the incident we don't mention, sadly.  Only parts that could be identify were the petrol tank, brake discs, exhaust and front forks.  Didn't even find the pistons or crank.

The company that tidied up did find a couple of huge lumps of aluminium, which I suspect might have been the frame...

Chaged the air filter.  Which turned into a remove the airbox, removed the rusted screws holding it together which had no heads left, glue/tape/cable tied the broken inlet duct whilst I await a replacement from the Gay of E.

On the upside, I ordered some new screws from Mr Bezos just before lunch today, delivered this evening.
