The drls on my V70 take care of all the lighting as they illuminate all the lights(number plate lights included)and at the front use the dipped beam headlights. The only thing acheived by turning the lights on at the switch is you get the back lighting for the instruments/heater controls/radio.

I very rarely drive at night now, if I do I switch the lights to manual mode I prefer to decide if I require full beam rather than dazzling oncoming traffic, I do like the speed limit buzzer as I don't want to be paying any fines it costs enough already being a motorist I'd sooner spend any spare cash on beer or a meal out.

Mine has a speed limiter which I find handy, especially in average speed zones.  Set it to 50 mph, settle in for the duration and watch all the muppets whizz by, then stand on their brakes as they approach the next camera, only to floor it again to the next camera!   

I suspect Rangie is referring to the modern version that reads the road signs and warns/prevents exceeding the limit, as opposed to the old style limiters

Drove  it over to Oundle to see some friends for lunch, not many hills in Lincolnshire but a couple on the way there the little AygoX coped really well on cruise at a steady 60mph and showed an average of 66.4 mpg , after the Range Rover it's like driving a Go kart but I'm really quite taken with it.

I programmed both of ours to ‘Scandinavian’ mode, which turns the rear lights on as well.    On the Audi’s it’s a simple adaptation tick box exercise on VCDS or OBDeleven. On earlier BMW’s you can program the rears to be on using Carly etc., and on later BMW’s you can select the rears to be on via the iDrive menu. 
So I’d hazard a guess that most manufacturers can do it, they just choose not to from factory, unless it’s going to Scandinavia that is.

Yes, but we are talking about the morons who shouldn't really be allowed a licence, and certainly wouldn't know about config changes, just "but the (from) lights are on"

Yes that's correct buzzes each time that there is a change in the speed limit & also the road sign associated lights up on the speedo/info screen

I can even unlock it from my phone , I think there's also a way to start it as well but not worked that one out yet , a lot of technology for  someone like me.. 😁

And that's ignoring the signs on side roads that have been spun round a bit so they are easily viewed from the main road.

SWMBO's C3 is even easier ... just turn the lights on while the ignition is on & the lights will then turn on & off with the ignition. If you want them on while parked, you turn the switch off and then on.

I believe many rely on a combination of speed sign recognition and GPS map data, so as long as the maps are up to date (particularly with the common thing on NSL roads being dropped to 50 at an alarming rate) you should be OK.  Obviously, responsibility is 100% with the driver.

I have gps assistance on mine as well, for those occasions when a sign is hidden or missing. It sounds good in theory, but try travelling down the A40 near Wheatley at 68mph (70mph limit) and the dash is angrily flashing 20mph. This is because the old London Road in Wheatley (now a 20mph limit) runs parallel to the A40. It does this due to the absence of repetitive NSL signs.

It would work better if it were programmed by someone who had actually read the highway code
