Adjusted the handbrake on the 2.2, only 3 clicks now. But spotted the very last part of the coil spring on passenger side, has snapped off  :(

Why is it Omega springs can barely last 3 years?  :(

Ah, you should of fitted a gm exhaust, then your springs will last longer. ;D

Went to local garage today and got quoted 150 for welding exhaust manifold and new flexy part of exhaust, parts and fitting included. Not too much but still too much. I'm taking mig there on wednesday, will report the result and wait for manifold crack to reappear  >:( >:(

Put 10 litres of fuel in it, jumped it and moved it across the drive... never a dull moment here...

Ways to go yet, but the primera track rods are off, wishbone bolts and bush spacers in their place ;D just happened to fit. ;D Need a 13mm drill and to fund out how to taper the holes for the omega track rods. Then weld up the parts for the travel bar, and bolt them on, then weld on the uprights once the cradle is made and I know its in the right place.

....although I'm not sure about the cradle idea now. As you may remember I like the idea of the rack mounted to the subframe as part of the structure it serves, where as the cradle attached to the body but serving the front wheels could allow body flex to influence feed back through the steering.

Will see how it progresses. Subframe cross member doesn't lend itself too well to attaching stuff to, as there's not a fiat surface on it in the relevant areas.

You say that wrt the support frame being attached to the body... where was the steering box/idler bracket mounted? No real issues with that arrangement  :y

Thinking that through, why not make use of the mountings, and arrange the brackets to fit those existing mounting holes...

If you're dead keen to mount the rack to the subframe as discussed, then cut one side out of a 2" box section and weld the now open side to the subframe, obviously cut to a suitable length to fit the straight centre portion of the crossmember :y

Not quite so straight forward though, as there is a reinforcement plate in the middle of the sandwiched top and bottom halfs. That really should be attached to something, which means opening the box section further to weld that on then weld the hole up.

All perfectly doable, but irreversible, and a bit more work. And the travel bar is in the way.
