Wheels In Motion
« on: 17 July 2007, 12:37:57 »

While my car was up on the ramp in the garage last week, my mechanic called me over and said I needed to see my offside front tyre. To my horror it was down to the steel belt, but not on the tread, it was right on the inside corner of the tyre. :o

Having hastily ordered 2 new tyres for the front, my mechanic said it would be advisable to take it to a specialist and have a full 4 wheel geometry done that includes camber adustment.

So off I went yesterday to see Tony at Wheels In Motion. He carried out a full 4 wheel check and made fairly extensive front and rear tracking and camber adjustments (yes, the camber was badly out!!). Gotta say, what a knowledgable and really friendly guy Tony is. :y

Oh boy, what a difference it made!!! The steering is now razor sharp and braking is more positive due to the tyre tread being in better contact with the road exactly as Tony said it would be. :y :y :y

It's not particularly cheap to have done (near enough £100) but money WELL spent, and this includes a free check up after 2000 miles. I can't recommend WIM enough as it really is a superb service - well done Tony, top man :y :y :y

BTW, WIM has now moved from Watford to Hemel Hempstead and the new address is Wheels In Motion, Kipling Motorist Centre, Redbourne Road, Hemel Hempstead, Herts. HP2 7AZ.

I have read several posts on this topic over the past couple of weeks. I had my geometry done after finding the same problem on my tyres after having wishbones replaced. The steering is still not perfect and pulls to the left.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of someone in the southwest who was good at this. I would be prepared to travel as far as Bristol to get it done right.

In the meantime I am going to send mine back to the people who did it recently and ask them to have another look but realise that this is a specialist thing and I do want it done properly.

Yep Cracking Guy Tony was over to see him friday just gone for a full set up but it only set me back £60 as i had guessed my Camber spot on After removing my Shocks and putting them back on. And once he had corrected my tracking to helpped pull in my camber just alittle more to be even more spot on.

Well Friday the 13th is my lucky day and it was my birthday :)

Ah, you're one of them. ;) Tony said he had 2 OOF members in to see him last week so I wonder who the other one was? :-/

Price wise I'm guessing you get charged according to what needs doing and how long he spends on your car. In my case there was a lot of adjustments needed and it was well over an hour but either way it was money well spent. :y

Good to hear your car's well sorted - did you notice any difference with the steering or braking afterwards?

You could give these a try - not sure what part of Cornwall you're in but they are based in Falmouth

No probs. According to their website they do full 4 wheel alignment using the latest laser technology so should be ok. :y

I went to WIM when they were at Watford.  Sorted the steering out - it is now as straight as a die.  I was charged £60 but only had about 5 adjustments.

Very impressed with the service and Tony was very friendly even pointing out a few things with the car on the ramp.

So, just endorsing what has been said above!

I had mine done on a previous Omega by these guys

http://www.elitedirect.com/ In Essex just after the Dartford Tunnel (If coming from Kent)

Totally transformed the car, stopped tramlining, I didn't have to hang on to the steering wheel with both hands any more.

I lost count of the number of times so called tyre fitters had tried to get it right.

I might be paying them a visit with my current Omega

Does anybody know where Wheels in Motion is now?   On Google there is one in High Wycombe, one in Chesham and one in St Neots, among others.  But which one has the sainted Tony??
