New Kamei Grill Installed
« on: 12 May 2008, 15:44:23 »

I got my new grill the other day, I'd asked a few opinions in the chat area, mixed results but I bought it anyway, was slightly disappointed when it came when I realised it wasn't a full grill like the irmscher one I already have, its basically just a mesh! The problem then was that when installed you can see right through the grill to see all the silver paint-work which looked awful, So I had to do something I didn't really wanna do!!! Paint it Black!!! Aaaahhhhhh!!

Now I am not the best painter in the world but I thought if it went tits up at least the Irmscher grill would cover it all up!!!

Turned out ok! I think!!!

The only thing now is at a distance you can see the silver of the front valance (i think thats what its called) through the grill. unfortunately not visible on the pics I have taken. But to rectify it, it means painting the front valance black too!! which I have opted out of thinking it will ruin the car!! But it is very annoying when you look at the front from a distance

looks nice, similar to mine,
and i know what you mean about seeing everything behind,
you could just mask up and matt black everything you can see through the grill if your that bothered,
also, if you do a good job no-one will know its not factory spec.

Saw a facelifted saloon yesterday with the same grille in, and I must say I like them a lot!
I like the flush look rather than the "facelifted Rover 200/400 we'll bolt a horrible looking chrome grille on the front 'cos it'll make it look posh" kinda look :)
If and when I trade in my trusty antique and went for a facelifted car (what else would I go for?) I think I'd do the same. Makes them look 100% better in my view, very sleek.

No I don't mind you asking m8 I got it from:

http://www.kamei-online.co.uk/main.html

Not cheap, If you could be bothered buying a cheaper grill and badge seperate I think it could be done cheaper.

Thanks for all the good comments, pleased you all like it!!

I will try get some decents pics of the full car with new grill at some point.

As for the cap, painting it is an option but like the sound of carbon fibre ones!

And I know this sounds crude but I have bought some black gaffa tape!! was thinking of applying some on the front valance, do you think gaffa tape is too strong and may pull paint off on removal?

gaffer tape wont stay there for long and will eventually peel off, making it look terrible, it also leaves a white mark behind which is a git too remove, I say it would be better as it is ! ;D
