Hello, well kept forum you've got here.
Thought I'd put down a contribution.
At the moment we drive (a.o.) a '99 petrol wagon automatic, dark blue. Bought relatively cheap after the last ('94) Mig was sold in Belgium.
The car needed some tlc. So I changed the oils and fixed some leaks. But it had a habit of jerking after a short stop. An oil change confirmed my suspicion: metal and very black stuff in the ATF. And the ATF kept leaking out at a quickening pace after that. To the point that I put an L-joint on the box with a copper tube into the engine compartment to fill up every 1000 km's. After that the garage changed the autobox pump seal ring. But to no avail. One summer day the car started juddering like it had lost at least 3 bolts from one wheel. Which it hadn't ofcourse. Garage suspected it had to do with the differential, the driveshaft or the autobox.
But with money put away in other projects I had to put the car in a quiet corner for the time being. We had an old Mazda 626 during that short time. We have had one in the past but we now noticed we had gotten accustomed to the luxury of the Omega, so the Mazda had to go again.
A month ago I got a bonus and the car went to the automatic transmission specialist. They confirmed that the autobox had died. Due to a worn driveshaftbearing. The vibration had worn the rear part of the box out, which explained the ATF loss. Some 2600 euro's later the reconditioned box is performing like new and we don't miss the 626 at all. The auto mechanics noticed some other shortcomings on the car, which were caused by the storage in the winter. But that was small stuff compared to their job.
I put the ECC in Low and Hi to get all the mold and water out of the car. There was no heat at the passengerside after that. That how I got to appreciate this forum. It got me on the road to a cheap fix. The servolink to the passenger side was loose. I even got some pics to go with this topic. Because the Haynes is a bit vague on that subject. But I'll make a new topic on that.
