Thank you everyone who offered help/advice on this project. I have rang Leavalley and purchased NEW headlight stalk with Cruise Buttons for £38 incl delivery - I'm well pleased. Should be arriving by Friday - will let you all know how it went

yeah he does, headlights and stuff are controlled by the cruise stalk. Don't you do any night driving TD?  

Good luck Pride, if might work straight away. Its 50/50 wether it will need enabling.

Done it on my 2.2 and its really handy for those 50mph limits on the motorways and other bits....

Ok...high beam/low beam are controlled with the same stalk.....night driving Tunnie?.....nah...dont do that its always dark   we all know how good the Omega headlights are if you dont have HID's

An option i would like to have....but i dont think it was ever an option on facelifts (would have been a relatively simple option on FBW's) is a speed limiter.....for the 30mph/40mph speed limits

Mine are the filament type TD. I did the bulb upgrade on my old Rover, because the lights on that were........ well ..... got more light from a candle. Got the Xenon upgrade bulbs from Halfords, not as good as HID's (getting used to the jargon..eh?) and it improved the lights by a good 60%. Might keep it in mind for the future :exclamation

The Good News and the Bad News

After alot of ringing - new Indicator stalk arrived today 14:00 hrs .

Had no problems with removing the covers or the old stalk. Just a couple of extra tips. Make sure that before you unscrew the steering column adjuster arm you open the fuse box cover, release the retaining strap and let it hang, then lower the steering column to its lowest point, then unscrew the adjuster. This makes refitting alot easier.
When new stalk has been fitted position the lower cover in place making sure the both sets of stalk gromets are in place in the slots and then screw in the steering column release stalk, this holds the bottom section in place while you fit the top piece. When aligned replace the 2 front screws first - a little gentle manouvering gets the whole cover set in place. Replace the 3 bottom screws, close the fuse box cover, adjust steering column to the required height. JOB DONE!

The bad news took it for a test run - Cruise did not work. Will have to visit my Vx dealer. Booked in for 08:00 on Thurs. Will let you all know the outcome.

No I did ask - but the reply was "It depends on what else they find that might need doing" - I told them that I only wanted the Cruise Activating and anything else just to give me a report.

We will see - will keep you all posted -  :'(I have put the Bank Manager on standy

I would get them to call you before doing, as they may charge up to anything...   ...only a level 3 authorised Tech2 (like mine ) can enable cruise, so they've got you...

Sorry to hear that you have to get it enable.

I was dead jammy and managed to buy an indicator stalk with cruise buttons and the wiper stalk with computer buttons as a pair on Ebay for £8.00 plus £4.00 postage!!

Plugged it in and wahey..... it worked.

Don't mean to gloat - I think I was just lucky.

Fitting it was much easier than I had expected and I was also helped by some top tips via this excellent forum - thanks to all.

It seems odd that some cars come already enabled, whilst others are not - there's consistency for you!

Hope you get it working soon, it is an excellent feature which I have always made use of in other cars I have owned.

This is definately a project for me over the winter. I take the car to France on holiday and now that I've seen on this forum what can be achieved, I definately want cruise control!!!!
My car is pre-facelift though so I'll have to gather up the bits needed, though I don't think it will need tech enabled.
