Ring dealer, ask how much...

Visit dealer, walk in workshop bit, and see if you can bribe a mechanic, saying you need your MID configured with Code Index x (I can supply the index number) - need year, mid type (radio display above FC or below), transmission, possibly tyres size, HID etc

Or if dealer really expensive, find out how much postage is, as I can program (while I've still got Proj TB1) for a few quid - I suspect the postage each way plus my cost (alas, I have to charge to recoup some of Tech2 costs :() may make it a bit expensive :(

Can you give me code, its the 2 plug MID part no 90379234 with the radio bit at the top fc etc below. Car is a 3 litre auto with 16" wheels fitted with 225 55 tyres. Just has the normal ribbed type headlights fitted. Car was registered early 1997 so may have been built in 96.

Cheers in advance.

Been to the dealer today for some bits and asked about programming the MID. Price is £35 inc vat. Could be worse I suppose, they wern't to sure it could be fully programmed correctly? is there more to it than putting the correct code in? I would have thought the MID was a common part having the same part number no matter what model it was orginally fitted to, so I would hope it can be programmed to any car configuration.  Maybe the dealer is trying to edge his bets :-?

He's sort of right, probably without realising. I bet he knows sod all about MIDs, and there configs.

However, the earlier MIDs (radio display on top line) have less capabilities than the later ones (radio display further down) - changeover period appears to be around 1997.  As far as I can work out, it is not possible to get the older ones working with some of features of newer cars, eg HIDs...

Ok, I think I will give them ago. I assume that most of the basic inputs will be the same, brakelights, oil level, brake pad warning, washer level etc as all this would be same across the range. I would think the more complex inputs for fuel consumption which will be looking for information from the engine ecu are the ones that changing the programming would affect, maybe gearbox as well.(the replacement MID is from an auto so would expect this to be ok)
As the donor MID was from the same year of car just a different engine size(both autos) i am hoping reprogramming will fix it up ok.
i will post the new codes after reprogramming.

Been and had the MID programed at the dealers today, made it worse than it was so got them to put it back.
They put in 008   09
                    24846

range with 10 litres showing on the fuel gauge 396 miles ???

They said the mid would only accept this code and the original but I wasn't convinced they knew wat they were talking about. >:(

Had the head of the service department trying to program it as well, still no joy, seems they have a very limited knowledge of what they are dealing with. They couldn't even find my model and year of car in their book.

What book? They should be using TIS ffs. Clear as anything in there for your car.
