EM light on and off
« on: 03 October 2006, 08:43:23 »

Modded my airbox yesterday (drilled) and left the filter out just to see how loud it sounded, headed off up the road, EM light on and off about 6 times in 2 miles.

Tried flashing the codes (Topbuzz way) but to no avail, I'm assuming EM light didnt stay on for 30secs+ for the code to be stored on the ecu.

Any ideas why the EM light is coming on? I'm assuming it's due to the drilled box+no air filter at the time?

Filter is back in place now.

BTW I'm reluctant to drive the car due to the oil cooler problems, so will not be driving it again now.

When you say to no avail. I take it you can get the eml to flash out the start up code 12?

Oh and there is no way I would drive the car again until the oil cooler is replaced and the coolant system is VERY thoroughly cleaned.

Agreed with LB66, should at least get a 12, and a 31 if engine not running...

Do not start car until that oil cooler fixed, and flushed through a couple of times ;)

To no avail means I got no codes to flash.

I bridged A & B with a paperclip, jumped in and turned ignition on, EM light stays illuminated.

Started car, EM light goes out, no flashing...

Car won't be getting moved as it's all taken apart now  :P

So 16, Knock Sensor 1

Wiring issue no doubt  ;)

I can't remember which side Knock sensor 1 is, I seem to recall drivers side. Check plug which is on EGR bracket if it is that side.  If knock sensor 1 is passenger side, it will be cable trapped in cam cover...

Knock sensor 1 is drivers side. Just had mine renewed today (Unusually, I believe, sensor was knackered, wiring was OK)

Ummm so this pic I got sent is wrong then?

I'm hoping it is wrong and you are right about it being driver's side as I tried getting at the knock sensor on passenger side lastnight, and gave up as it seems as though I'll be having to remove battery/fusebox/everything else to get at it  :'(

Someone please confirm 100% thank you

I had a problem with Knock Sensor 2...

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1156788236/0

and that was def passenger side (cable trapped in cam cover - common problem), so knock sensor 1 must be drivers side...
