engine trouble

hi everyone im new to this forum and pleased to join you all i used to log into The dark side so i recognise some of the names..took me a while to find this site..good to be here although an omega novice i hope to learn from you guys...so heres my first problem  started omega  yesterday and it sounds like a tractor ,bumping /vibrating coming from black  plastic housing in front and to left of plenum ,ive been told this is where the tensioners are and to change these and water pump....is that close to the mark try link below hopefully it leads u to a short video where u can hear whats going on...1999 2.5 cdx petrol 80000 miles {dealer assured me cambelt was done at 60000}.......thanks

Wow.....cam belt and tensioners......change it pronto.......dont run it!

Blimey!

Strip it down to belt, and see how far out it is...

Not sure if valves/pistons haven't already had a chat - what do you reckon Mark?

i was goion to leave this into my local dealer any idea how much its gonna cost to get work done ie:-cambelt,tensioners,waterpump...etc

do it yourself!

Yes thats right - hire the correct tools, but the dvd available on here and do it yourself buyig all the parts including tensioner........

avoid a main dealer or that will be closer to £500 at a guess......

I'm afraid I wouldn't be up to this job either at the minute, but hope to be sometime in the future?  [smiley=lipsrsealed.gif]

Unfortunately you can't wait that long. You could check with main dealer/Masterfit for prices but they would certainly be out of my league, so try a local garage as well. We should be able to sort parts perhaps, if required, but you would need to price the labour. Definately get the DVD though in any case as it's superb. Well worth watching, and having in your 'tool box.' Some of those involved could tell you how long it actually takes to do, so you will get an idea of how many hours labour, etc are involved. Sometimes though it is hard to find someone confident/competent with the V6 lump.

One other thing, you said the dealer told you the belt had been done 20k miles ago, would you have any come back with them?

Maybe what the dealer says is correct. The belt was changed in last 20K miles.
He hasn't mentioned the tensioners though, which is what usually fail.

Yeah - fair point Cap. Just clutching at straws I guess. Sometimes wonder if the dealer would know what a tensioner is!!

Its always worth trying to get the dealer to remedy it. But I can see where they will lead the argument.

LOL thats why I only use a garage thats run by an old mate.
We don't argue cos he charges me next to nothin for any work they do.
