mpg of 2.2, 2.6 and 3.2 on petrol
« on: 02 November 2006, 23:14:44 »

I'm thinking of buying a late Omega (2003) and getting lpg installed.
I understand that LPG gives 10-15% less mpg than petrol (but obviously still has cost savings)

I've seen some owners on this site talking about the mpg on their 2.2, however there seems to be less information on the 2.6, and almost none on the 3.2.

Can anyone give me an idea of the urban/motorway petrol mpg comparison of the three engines ?

Thanks.

(p.s. I've looked at the Parkers figures, but they only give a combined figure, and all look suspiciously close to one another)

Sorry, mines only a 3.0l, but if it helps, I average 25mpg day to day, up to 33mpg on a long empty motorway run (at around 80 - 85mph)

I'm the same as TB.

The smaller engines seem to have more of a benefit in town than on the Motorway.  Knowing what I know now, I'd probably get a 2.5/2.6 manual MV6.  However, the 3.0 Elite Auto is quite nice and I have no plans to trade it in.  I'm just still not used to the price of petrol over here  >:(

Daily average (50 miles to and from work) around 25 - 27 mpg. Long runs up to 32 - 33 mpg.

Note, in general, the 3.2 gets the same as the 3.0 and the 2.6 gets the same as the 2.5

just came back to brackley today, reset the gauge when i left London.... 50 miles of motorway @ 75mph got 40.6 mpg.

Then cause it got rammed around Oxford i took to the lanes, several over takes up to 5k revs... generally doing 70 for about 20 miles of lanes and having to go via Banbury to drop off a freind... resulted in an average of 36mpg...

Not bad considering i was booting it several times, and the car was quite full....

Around town i generally get about 31mpg.

Note also that manuals get considerably better mpg than automatics....

I've come to the conclusion that a 2.6 is probably the best option.....it doesnt seem to use much more fuel than a 2.2....plus youve got the extra horses  ;)

Only downside is if your getting it converted to lpg.....it will probably cost about £400 more for a V6.

Unless you diy it......Martin Imbers the one to ask about that......he diy'd his 2.6  :y

never used to bypass today, came back from Chacombe on the back lanes for a bit of fun!  :)

Think if my 2.2 gets written off for any reason by someone, I will replace it with a V6. Cause i wouldn't mind the extra power!

If i can't get a Diesel for my Euro trip car, then it will have to be a V6  :)
