How do i remove the wiper arms?
« on: 05 November 2006, 13:43:34 »

Hey folks,

I have a 1994 vauxhall omega and i have tried removing the wiper arms, i have taken off the bolts but they still seem to be stuck right on there, do they just need some gentle persuasion or is there another way to take them off, thanks.

They do stick a bit sometimes.

There is a proper tool, but If you push down on arm about 4" from bolt (where it hinges), it can help free it....

Another understatement! - must be this cooler weather!
Mine are under 'plus gas' treatment right now.

TheBoy, what does the tool look like (tried a 17mm spanner but that isn't going to do it ...)  Judging but the corrosion behind the nuts mine haven't been off this century and are in need of some appropriate "persuasion".

A ball joint spiltter (not a wedge type) or the following style puller work very well.

- any sign of some paint?
- and a bottle? (driving round with the daft warning on and precious little for the forthcoming bad weather.

Sorry andyjstew I think this is hijacking your thread a bit.
Thanks Mark, might collect the paint before the other - what chances do you think of a plastic gunge repair.  Tried the local halfrauds today but no small pullers like that, nor an E18 socket to complete the basic kit (is this needed). Suppose for the £2 off on vat I could try Wednesday - is that a late evening then.

Mark: Yes please grab me one of those small spliters if you think it'll do the job (must confess, not tried them since the plusgas from the weekend). Do you think the plastic glue will work? (worth taking it off for - just replace it)

Perhaps I can call over the weekend.

Supermop: No please don't let him near my motor again (no offence MB).

andyjetew: Shame you are not local - you could encourage mine!

If you just need to remove them then we can sort that and put a dab of grease on to stop them seizing again.....
