weird one but..............
« on: 16 November 2006, 16:28:28 »

weird on but.......  put a topic up seeking advice on my fans blowing through hot on all settings but cold on all settings only through the demister vent, when i decided to have a fiddle...i put the drivers temp on cold and the pass on hot and it stayed cold at the drivers face vent?!! it only changed up to the demister vent when i put the pass temp on fully cold, backing it off on the pass vent one click(so its still in the cold) kept the cold airflow at the face vents? so i suppose on a warm day as long as the l/h vent is nearly on cold the driver will have full cold !!!?? any ideas on why and how, i really am trying to get to know the new beast!

I'm a bit of a light weight regards technical on the omega and I must admit I'm a bit confused with you discription of the problem.

I.e not sure what you mean by the pass?

Sorry if I am telling you something you already know. But I to have a GLS pre facelift and the air direction dampers or flaps are operated by the vacuum from the engine. Not electric but driven by air pressure. Problem I have had in the past have been the small vac pipes becoming disconnected or elbows cracking, stopping a good vacuum. This stops the dampers from moving, when this happens the direction usualy stays in one position.

There is a sort of Vac accumalator, not sure the correct name, but I'm sure someone more technical could tell you how it works, but this seems to store the vac created by the vac pipes. This can go faulty.

There is also the heater bypass valve. Again this can fail and I think divert your hot water away for the heater element in your unit.

Sorry I cant be more knowledgeable but that is the basics I have sust' out, I'm sure someone else could give you a better discription. good luck :y

sorry should have been clearer pass is passenger side. i thought also that with vacuum  supply feed failing the airflow only comes out of one vent but it certainly changes over on the hot,  the cold only when the passenger temp knob is not fully in the cold zone? i didnt think one side temp knob should affect the other but it certainly does. if the passenger side temp knob is fully in the cold the cold air to both sides shoots straight up to the demister vent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ill just have to leave the passenger side temp knob short of fully cold and the it will all work ok!

So is your problem that when both controls are on cold all of the air goes to the windscreen?

Both heater controls have a switch so that when they are both on cold it turns the heater bypass valve on and shuts off water flow to the heater matrix. If the HBV vacuum pipe was not connected somewhere it wouldn't shut the heat off but all of the flaps would return to their sprung positions, maybe cold air to the windscreen.

Can you hear air hissing somewhere when both controls are set at cold? You need the engine running so it might be difficult but it may just be the vacuum pipe fallen off the HBV. If you put recirculation on you may also be able to hear the flap open again behind the glovebox as the heater control is moved to cold (I think it's sprung at open).

exactly that! i will check all the pipes around the hbv and see if any are off or loose, i cant say that ive heard any hisses when moving the passenger temp knob- only the flap going over. when the weathers better i can give it a good going over, tony.
