Cant quite fathom this out.....

Went to start mv6 and it sounded initially like it was almost totally flat, after cranking for a few seconds its started to sound healthier but still not starting. Took about 15 seconds like this before it fired into lift. Now its -0.5 on the MID so freezing. However its not been far off that all week and i have never experienced it ( car always starts on turn of key)

Okay so i stopped it and restarted it and it fired immediatley - no signs anywhere of a flat battery - oh and battery is good and car is used every day.

So it must be damp or cold then,,,, :-/ yeah thats it....

Well thats what i thought BUT when car started i was asked to enter code for radio - suggesting an electrical break....

Any thoughts??? Its never happened before  :-/

The radio code does indicate that it's lost it's battery at some point

Sure your battery connections are all good? And the battery is good?

It needs a godo battery to crank that V6, especially on a cold day!

hmmmmm battery wasnt good - but taken out 6 weeks ago and fully charged over 3 days.

Since then its been spot on and the car has been used daily - thing is, once it fired up it sounded perfect as usual. May just go buy a GO from vx seeing as i now have my trade card  :-/

Ive noticed in the past little things that tell me the battery is low ( sure we all have) like the windows get slower and the warning bleep when your lights are on when the keys are out the ignition gets a little slower sounding but everything seems fine in that sense this morning....

Sounds like battery shafted.  Battery efficiency drops with temperature, so its coming to light now that its got a bit nippy....

Battery may well be on it's way out BUT.............................

I had a similar sort of thing last week with my V6.  It took a long time to fire, a good deal longer than normal.  I was talking to my mum at the time and when it started, she said "I thought that it was not going to go".

There was no evidence of a power loss, radio still had it' memory etc.

This is the first time that the car has done this, and a new battery (Vaux GO) was fitted earlier this year.  All very strange and it has not, touch wood, done it since.

Any thoughts???

Same symptoms as mine a while ago Markie. My battery was fine but low output from alternator

   Sounds to me like a cell is on it way out , not taking a full load!!!

 Only takes a good cold snap to catch you out :exclamation.

 Hope you get it sorted, nothing worse than messing about on a cold morning.

wel i have got a battery of batteries in the er garage. I remembered this as i set the fireworks off next to the garage a few weeks back  

But for my own car its gotta be a new one so i `ll go spend a few pennies this week on a new one  

Thanks Guys - never thought the cold would affect this - if only id use my garage for my daily cars instead of projects it could be tucked up at night

this is true Dave - for a few seconds i was thinking oh oh flat battery, as i was about to take key out to get jumps i noticed it suddenly started to sound more positive. After about ten seconds it sounded fine, turning over ok, just not starting.

Then Blam! Off it went.

I stopped and started it 3 times immedatley after that without driving - and every time it started as normal ( within a few seconds)
Havent been out yet so will report back todays starting situation - its just as cold today !

No rush though i have 7 days off on holiday.
