Are you a member of the AA or RAC? They may also be able to help.

Good luck, anyway.  :y

RMIF offers free concilation services, so you can complain to them, but did you check that the garage is indeed an RMIF member?

yes indeed they are

Well you're in luck mate  :y

Follow protocol, write to the garage formally, and also mention that should they not honour their obligations blah-blah-blah then you will have no choice but to bring this matter to the RMIF conciliation service... this should bring them around.

If you are going down the route of conciliation, you are unlikely to get them to pay the full cost of another garage putting right what they did wrong.  And I think they need to be given a reasonable chance to put right what they did wrong... but ultimately you will probably be seeking some rebate, which may still leave you out of pocket but you will be better off than not getting anything from them.

You may get the full cost of another garage fixing it if you go to small claims, in which case you should pay the independent the £300 for preparing the evidence and then claim it back off the garage through the courts. But realistically if you choose the asy option of conciliation, you may get back from the garage the original cost of the repair, or at least the labour if they say that the parts are re-usable.
