Oil Pump
« on: 05 January 2007, 13:08:50 »

Had a Call Off the Mechanic today saying he has checked my engine out clean as a whistle the Oil Pick Up and Strainer and so forth, so he thinks its the Oil Pump which is £140.00 he says or around that mark is this true ?

all together with this and that parts and labour its going to be around the 400 mark i think which is not bad but after just paying out £380 its adding up alittle to much.

If anything else gos wrong that i cant fix myself il have to get rid of the car i think i cant keep pouring cash into it like this.

Try looking on www.autovaux.co.uk to confirm the price I'm sure they would sell them.

Maybe cheaper to do it yourself saving on the labour.

Granted i'm not sure whats involved but maybe doable diy.

Has he done an oil pressure test and has he checked the pressure relief valve.....if not then in my mind he has not completed a proper diagnosis.

You dont change parts on a wim...........

The pressure relief valve was fine he said i think he has done a pressure test but i know he has the sump off at the mo.

He did say he had checked everything and chatted to a mate of his and he said they have had acouple of Omegas not many with no oil pressure and changing the oil pump sorted it.  he said it was rare but does happen from time to time as i thought Oil Pumps were very unlikely to go.

Craig, it may well be the pump has failed, but... can he be 100% sure that when it's failed while driving, it's not caused long-term damage to other upper/lower engine components? Bearings, Followers, etc..

Don't forget this engine was starved of oil over some distance...

Don't want to dampen your spirits mate, but It would have been ten times cheaper mate to get a good second hand engine, stick a new belt kit and water pump on it, and just fit your inlet manifold etc for the LPG.

Its ok mate if i have any other problems ill be sticking in another engine.

The Oil light never came on during the trip it was only afterwards it did so i am keeping ones fingers crossed its ok as it doe not have that many miles on it thats why i did not just change it as its only got 68,000 on the clock.

We Will See i know the Mechanic and if it buggers up after he fixes it he will sort me out ( I HOPE )  lol

Have to laugh or ill cry :o(
