Puddles INSIDE my car
« on: 07 January 2007, 15:33:05 »

Checked the obvious...doors shut, windows shut, checked the drain whole beneath pollen/cabin filter...some water but not high enough to enter filter (vacuumed water and crud out)

I carefully poured some water onto the drain vent/whole thingy and all the water flowed though easily and prodded a few dead leaves out of there too.

Vacuumed up water from f/n/s and r/n/s footwells but water still evident?

No ideas now..any help please?

I'm wondering where the air-con drains condensation to?

oops forgot to say...coolant is fine and the 'water' in the puddles is clear and odourless..no hint of the sugary sweet smell of coolant.

carpet is only wet on the near side/left side :-/

I had this once - turned out to be coming in from the sun-roof, running down the windscreen pillar & out of the bottom of the dash into the passenger foot-well
The eventual give away was noticing a soggy head-lining in the front N/S corner of the sun-roof
I solved it by thoroughly cleaning up the roof seals & copious amounts of silicon lubricant to the runners

Headlining is dry and no sunroof on my car anyways.... :-[

What made me think about the a/c is that after vacuuming up the water I went on a 20 mile drive, no rain.

I put the heater on hot and had the a/c on to help dehumidify the car...got home and puddles back :-/

Sounds like your drain was blocked if it was holding water. That would spill into cabin...

Well just been out to vac up last bit of water

Drain under pollen filter is clean and vac'd again just to make sure. Jug of water flows straight through the drain...no backing up at all...have to keep an eye on it suppose :-?

Which sudgests there was/is a blockage as there should be none in the scuttle area.....I strongly suspect that this is the cause.

So just to recap....the most likely cause of wet carpet on the left side would be due to a blocked drain under the pollen/cabin filter?

I noticed that the inside of the airvents under the passengers seat were wet (drivers side are dry)....is this a symptom of water ingress due to blocked drain under cabin filter?

A very likely cause, yes.

The water will end up at lowest point, so may easily move to under seat...

this may be a bit obvious, but have you actually lifted the carpets?? I had a leak (oooer) in my omega a couple of years ago - turned out to be a big grommett in the bulkhead - but you wouldn't believe the thickness of the sound deadening material in an omega, and its really spongy. Could it be that the new water you're finding isn't just the old stuff soaking up from the sound deadening again? I had to remove mine and dry it on the radiator for a couple of days - and it stank too!

Havent had a chance yet to lift the carpets. Although I had the car up on a 4 poster ramp this morning and nothing appears to be missing from under it although I did find a slight weep from the oil filter >:( (job for tuesday)

However the water is clean and no smell at all.

But given the amount of water in the carpets (about 1 to 2 pints) this hasnt just happenend but we have had a lot of rain in the last few days and I did wash my car recently and I do use a hose to rinse the car before and after washing it.

If your drain was slow to clear, you could easily get this amount in through pollen filter, possible more if you used hose...

Change the pollen filter as well, as thes will likely be damp, and cause misting up.

Consider yourself lucky you do not have climate - the fan controller (which would have got ruined) is bloody expensive...
