Now I have a pretty good Idea of what the problem maybe but thought you guys could help comfirm my suspicions basically my dads omega was given a nice long run down to cornwall over the xmas period now when he was down south he rang me to say the idle was going up and down when the engine gets hot but drives fine and when cold idles fine.

Before he went I resealed the rocker cover new gasket, o rings and sealant and I made sure all the breather pipes were nice and clear, even fitted an oil seperator for good measure.

The only thing I didn't check was If i'm right is there a mesh at the bottom of the rear crank breather pipe if so this is still in need of cleaning and also although i cleaned the throttle body I never removed it just cleaned with the carb cleaner, thought best to leave till he got back and when vx were open for a new gasket.

Idle contol valve was left to soak in carb cleaner for the best part of a morning.

So pretty much covered most but think I may have missed something.

Any Ideas would be much appreciated

Cheers for the suggestion those were two things I had a thought about.

Forgot to mention Being that when I put it all back on initial startup you could hear a hissing noise which i traced to the icv not being tightened on properly, could be that I need to make sure the jubilee clips are all done up nice and tight aswell only when I was trying to find the leak I could have unecessarily loosened something and not done it back up properly.

Food for thought which is much appreciated as I am looking at it over the weekend.

i think it sounds like a dodgy ICV.... if you recently cleaned the breathers and various bits then it suggests the valve itself?

Only thing i can suggest is maybe swap the ICV for the one on your car?? Easily done and would prove if that's the problem

Air leak is usually worse when cold, so my money is on the ICV - try a little 3in1 oil on the butterfly if you havn't already.

Hmmmm.....if its just naff at idle but ok when cruising then I would suspect EGR stuck open......easy to test with a good scantool as you can operate the EGR and watch for the effect on rpm/MAF readings

When we did my mates throttle body and breathers on his 2.0 estate, that had an eratic idle, we adjusted the throttle cable and that cured it. We also lightly oiled the linkage.

Cheers Tunnie for the suggestion I think It maybe the ICV needs soaking again as what I didn't know was my dad has put some wynns stuff in for the injectors now whether this is the cause I couldn't say for definate but he told me last night that it only started after he put the stuff in.

I am going to be removing the throttlebody this time and ICV again, plans for saturday to give them a thorough clean.

The ICV on my dads omega is my old one so I may swap it back for its original and see how it goes. Its wierd as I only replaced mine as a precaution, only back when I first got my car and not knowing of such helpful forums I paid Vx top wack to do a full throttlebody clean on mine and I was told if that didn't solve the problem I would need a new ICV which I ended up replacing anyway.

Guess its just a case of being thorough.

Cheers for the suggestion may have to take a look at that one as mine being a 97P 2.0 idles at just under 1K revs where as my dads 94M idles at around 500-600rpm sounds a little low to me, could this be causing a problem I wonder.

Is there any other way of proving the EGR valve is working properly only I dont have access to a good scantool.

Would there be any codes related to this if there was a problem, not that I know of any codes, eml goes out as normal.

Making sure the butterfly opens and closes properly and that the small drilling is clear.

I am wondering though I change the small breather pipe for new aswell could it be partially blocked already again another thing to check.

The weekend however went pete tong as it was raining saturday and the boys were ill and my partner on sunday was ill aswell so a quiet one, but still needing to find the source of the problem.  

So hopefully sometime this week I will be able to have a look at it.
