What else to get done..???
« on: 05 January 2007, 19:57:41 »

 first;
happy new year, may it be prosperous and breakdown free for all of you...
hope Xmas brought you all the toys and bits of Omega you wanted.....

Second....

now to things motor related....
This new year
My Much abused 3.0 Elite V6 estate......  sadly, chose the new year weekend to have a rear wheel bearing begin to fail, and then to add injury, on my way to the garage from the office,  to drop it off for the wheel bearing job...   the EGR valve blew.

Not a happy camper....

So , what other jobs should I get the garage to do to make sure that the new EGR lasts more than a day??

(NB.....   this is not a vauxhall dealer...  but the nearest service place to my house....   conveniently right opposite it :D    but they seem nice chaps, very helpful, and apparently, honest......  (no, seriously, i mean it.... )
They have the auto-data system for checking assorted things in a manual like fashion... and a reasonable relationship with Gurney's, one of our local ish vauxhall dealers...
(when they ordered the wheel bearing, Gurney's mentioned some special tool for lining them up, that isn't mentioned by Haynes or Auto data, ......  but offered to lend them the tool for free.....  and would send it with the parts !  )

but obviously they are not Omega experts like some hereabouts are.....

So , to avoid further heartache and expense....  i thought it best to ask you lot.... and  then go and kick in my accountants door to see how I'll pay for it....   With 5 kids, just after Xmas is THE worst possible time to have this happen!

I'm no longer really able to do this sort of stuff myself , i have a Back&Neck problem that rules it out....  more or less permanently...  so I must grit my teeth and pay through the nose somewhere... so it might as well be locally, if you see what i mean...

likewise....    Cambelt and water pump.....   it's due doing now....   where's bets to get kits and stuff??

thanks in advance for any help and advice...

As it happens We've recently (October) moved from Botley (west oxford) to Sandford on Thames (south of oxford, just past Sainsbury's off the A4074)

The Garage in Question is Tj Hall & Sons/Sandford service Centre   , they share the site over the road with a car sales chap...

ahhhh   a lady of good breeding then....   :D

(whom of course has been a fine stabilising influence on you....     )

I know her neck of the woods fairly well, i grew up around the Islip/Wheatley side of Oxford...  moved away for 15 years then came back in 2001.....  at which point My Eldest started training weekly at the Horspath Athletic ground....

anyway, all that aside....

While I think about it.....   can anyone confirm or rule out the rumour that it's possible to change the heater Bypass Valve in 15 minutes or so without removing all and sundry on top??  or is it best done while dismantling and cleaning the entire breather/top cover assembly??

I'm kind of trying to figure in as many cheap ish jobs to be done at the most opportune moment , since I'll be parting with money....   I'd like to get the most bang for my hard earned buck .

I had planned on it's next service including a full and complete fluid and filter change for everything everywhere......  Engine, Box, Diff, Brakes, washer jets, fluffy dice, and pet gremlin.

but it's not due till about late march, so funding for this is hurting, rather than being budgeted for.......   thus the intense  inclination to make it count !

cheers.. for that...

Anyone else got some pearls of wisdom to share???

also my tailgate catch release button feels "funny"   not the smooth, refined and positive feel it used to be... more of a vague , and 'dodgy" feeling now... and requires more force to operate....   any ideas as to the cause anyone???

cheers.

further input would still be welcome......    since the garage managed to get the wrong EGR valve....  although to be fair I was with them when they ordered it, and they definitely asked for the right one....  ......
so the car's still there and ready to have stuff done....
