Price of camcover gaskets
« on: 22 January 2007, 19:13:02 »

A couple of members have been doing the dreaded gaskets recently. Can anyone give me a rough idea of the cost of all necessary items? I don't need the plenum 'o' rings as I've already changed them, but I'm just curious so I don't get ripped off!!

Cheers  :y

Sorry, haven't got prices to hand, but use genuine gaskets - the pattern ones are rubbish. Also get BLACK sealant - the dealer will insist it should be green, but he is lying...

Item 90511451 includes 2 gaskets for 1 head, you need 2 of these kit's..  My recent receipt says, retail £26:60  Price £36:64 + £6:41 vat, I got 31:31% discount as a trade buyer, then you need 16 'O' ring seals @18p each + vat...  That's all GM stuff by the way.

Hope this helps

I take it that was for the camcover gaskets only - don't you need to replace the gaskets from the inlet bridge and the head? About five other gaskets in total?

Dave did you replace these other gaskets?

Yes I did, £9 each +vat, less with trade discount, Black gunge about a fiver... Cost me all together £76:00 with trade discount, I notice that there is a club discount on here somewhere to apply for, maybe that'll help you....

I recently paid £72 for the gaskets for both sides, the 16 o-rings and the black sealant. I'm only a peasant so had to pay retail price  :)

I'm a peasant too!  Just happen to have a few favours owed to me..

Dave C

p.s. How did you find doing this job, did you encounter any problems,  I made the mistake of buying the cheapies the first time aroud, so I'm £32 out of pocket straight away..

It wasn't difficult, there is just a lot of stuff to remove before you get to them.

I still smell burning oil though (done 70 miles since doing them) and I'm concerned that they're still leaking oil because I didn't clean the breathers well enough  :-/

The maintenance guide should cover the main things to do this job....
