Water Pump Replacement
« on: 21 February 2007, 18:53:13 »

My temp needle went unusually high today - but the fan kicked in and - I think all is well.

Seen several people mention water pump replecements so I wondered, when should they be replaced?

My car's done 92k miles or so; as far as I am aware, it has not been changed yet.

Is there any way of knowing if it's on its way out or do you just have to wait for the failure and hope to notice prior to head gasket blowing?

How much does it cost to replace and is there a guide anywhere here (looked but did not find).

Cheers

its recommended that water pumps are replaced at the cambelt change as its so easy to at that stage.

Expensive to change on their own at a dealer due to the amount needed to strip down.

Are you getting your cambelt done on Saturday?

The cambelt DVD covers it (cost £3, contact member Robin Hood).

Personally, I change waterpump every other cambelt, which itself should be every 40k (so waterpump every 80k).

Or pop over saturday, and watch one being done on other members' cars...

Me too, will be at Delphi factory in Suffolk upgrading RAID on HP servers...  >:(

I was going to add 'I don't actually need my cambelt done..' but then I remembered that I actually do need to do the rocker covers...  ;D
