Yes, earlier IR ones can be bypassed.  However, may be worth checking if transponder still in place. Does his other key work?

Its sods law my dad broke the other remote and has been trying to source a good replacement.

He has said to me he is going to get another set of batteries for the one he has and shall try that first, never know it may work.

Tempted to just remove the old alarm system and fit a new one.

With these types of remote they dont need programming to the ecu or do they?

Damn (regards the programming), have been looking at possible replacement alarm systems and its hard to decide which to go for if I do upgrade as some have alarm relays and some dont.

I have a copy of the haynes, I shall see if I can make some understanding of the wiring layout.

Can anyone confirm whether it needs the relay or not.

Has anyone else had a similar or the same problem, and if so how did you get around it.

On sunday i had a look proved one cable to the battery live feeds the central locking alarm/ immmobiliser.

Checked the alarm/immobiliser box behind the driver side kick panel.

Removed the sunroof and internal lamp section and checked the Infra red sensor.

After all that still none the wiser and now in need of a new sunroof twist dial thingy, couldn't pull it out so out came the pliers  ;D

Having read the Haynes diagrams if you disconnect the immobiliser this also takes out the fuel pump, from the looks of it you have the Central locking unit which connects to the alarm unit which then connects to the Immobiliser both the alarm unit and Immobiliser box, the fuel pump is connected to in some way. F18 runs to both the alarm unit and immobiliser, my thoughts was to disconnect the immobiler leaving the central locking and alarm intact.

Current State:

The alarm light is flashing.
The central locking is not working from the remote but the car is unlocking from the key.
The car itself cannot be started with the key.
Tried to do the paper clip test but this failed need to double check the bulb as its not coming on when you turn the key in the ignition.
The little LED is flashing when you press the Button on the remote.

Read other suggestions where removing fuse 12 or 15 bypasses but I found 1 of the fuses knocked out everything.

Any Ideas would be much appreciated
