hey guys,

i brought an omega recently and having nothing but trouble, i just had the rocker cover leak sorted and HT leads replaced because of the damage the oil had done to them and now i have a "coolant level" error message.

i checked the water it looks ok then i check the oil and its all white  

I am at my wits end, i have no money left after the last bout of repairs and now this, i have not even had the car a month (private sale thus no warrenty).

you think maybe head gasket or oil cooler, whats the cost?

feel so depressed now, no money and no car....... what a month

If it's mayo on the dipstick it sounds like a head gasket gone. With the oil cooler you usually only get oil in the water due to the higher pressure of the oil in the cooler.

If it's just mayo in the filler oil tube it's pretty much normal. It takes a long while for the filler neck to get hot and in winter it sometimes never does so the condensation there doesn't get evaporated.

thanks for the prompt reply, it is in the filler, but there is ALOT of it. i checked when i brought the car and it was fine, now a few days later its really bad

Clean out what you can then go for a ride out somewhere, far enough to really get the oil heated up properly. Hopefully this will drive off any moisture in the oil from short journeys and put your mind at rest.
Some oils seem more prone to making mayo. I stick with Vx full synth or semi synth and have a small amount of mayo when commuting (7 miles only so not hot) this clears as soon as it does 30 miles.

Coolant level warning is often the sensor connection under the expansion tank. Unclip the tank and clean up the connections. Bit of WD40 and should be fine.

well guys seems maybe good news and some bad.

The maybe good news is my missus took the car today to see friends (25 mile round trip) and the mayo that was in the filler has not come back any worse, there is also no mayo on the dipstick. Does this sound promising?

The bad news is she absolutly hates the car and flat out refuses to drive it again, which means im probably going to be looking for a smaller car in the near future

These pics were taken of my Omega V6 oil neck, and at this time of year, it is completely normal. This was particularly sludgy in the oil filler neck because of the castrol oil I was using.

Please answer this one Q - is there mayonnaise on your dipstick? If yes, then it's a potential HG failure, if no, then you're probably in luck, just keep a close eye. You will help reduce it (if it's not HG) by cleaning out the breather system to reduce crankcase pressure (about £3 for carb cleaner!) - and also do an oil and filter change.

Coolant leak is probably Heater Bypass Valve - seperate issue. Have a look and feel around the HBV 1) with engine running, don't burn your hand 2) just after engine has been stopped .. and see if there's any wet. Or any signs of coolant spraying around at the back of the engine.

Is it missfiring? Please don't panic, there's no reason straight away to believe it's fatal.

its not as bad as the picture, and the dipstick is black, so i guess it is normal.  
thanks guys, i was dead sure i was in for spending more money that i currently dont have.

The bad news is the missus wont drive the car so you may spot it in the used car section soon when i get the log book back

I dont know what your wife has driven in the past but an omega takes a bit of getting used to. Make a deal with her, let her drive it for a month, if she still doesn't like it then divorce her

ha ha ha ha, she is reading over my shoulder so i think access to this website is going to be disapearing along with the car :s

My missus didn't like big cars she didn't see the point in them and wasn't to impreesed about the Omega after a couple of weeks though she had a change of heart she loves it now especially all the whistles and bells of the the Elite 8-)
