Just a few questions, re project Elite's engine
1) After re-fitting the timing belt kit, engine all timed up... I just felt that it was a little too easy to turn over by hand (plugs in). Admittedly I was using a daddy of a rathcet.. but when I tried it with a small one, it still seemed a bit to easy to turn. Now, there's clearly compression there, and it may be absolutely nothing... but thought it's worth a mention
2) Not entirely sure what happened, fitting new cambelt kit. With the engine all lined up, fitted and tensioned the belt. Took up the slack on the idlers, and set the tension, ready for the initial rotation. Rotated once by hand, no problem. Made a few tweaks - rotated again, and it was out by 2 teeth on each cam - and the tensioner was backed right off! (Yes, the crank was in the correct place after fitting the belt!)
This happened twice, and I've no idea what caused it. I didn't ever rotate the engine anti clockwise, and I was lined up perfectly at all times when fitting the belt.
I started again from scratch - and didn't have this problem, the belt is now properly tensioned and in time. Never happened to me before... weird..
I must have turned the engine 20 times by hand after getting it right, to make sure nothing untoward happened again. The tension and timing remained perfect, and all pulley/tensioner bolts are torqued, so I assume there are no worries?
