Cant really be bovvered changing the water pump on the v6 veccy ( its much harder to get to as its not front facing despite being the y26 omega 2.6 engine)

I am however reluctant to plop my new stat etc into position when theres clearly some thick gunk still in the waterway below where stat sits....remember this is the oil cooler failure car

so can anyone tell me just how much fluid can sit between the stat housing area and waterpump. Im hoping not too much so when i flush engine and add new coolant for the first time and when the stat opens with the engine running it may flush some of that remaining gunk out. Then i can flush several more time to get it all out ( i know its cheating   )

About half of the coolant is in the engine block, so somewhere between 4 and 5 litres.

Yep, simple answer is lots!  

You need to replace the water pump and flush it all out to be certain, or you are rapidly going to have problems.

Markie, chances are the oily coolant will eventually damage seal on pump anyway....  ...though may be worth flushing a few times to remove as much gunk as possible first...

thanks guys....i sort of knew that just wanted to be lazy - but as we all know lazyness in maintinance often comes back to haunt us.

Will progress the rebuilt ( when its dark) and deal with the water pump / and seal seperately....next week..before its started up... :-/
