difference between saab v6 turbo and omega
« on: 23 April 2007, 18:11:27 »

hi guys right... 1st question and as mentioned in newbi bit, like my strange questions.

anyway ............ if im correct the 3.0 v6 saab engine is the same as the vauxhall 3.0 v6 as in same engine just different ancilaries etc etc...... as gasket sets are all labled saab / omega

the saab 3.0v6 has also a turbo'd varient...... you know where im heading here dont you.

is it still the same engine??? and if so any one have anyidea the differences between them... i have heard conrods have differnt oil ways due to front wheel drive and how oil moves around when facing other way to omega  but thats all i know...

can anyone help..???

Not sure if internals are stronger. I heard Omega 3.0 was only good to around 250bhp, dunno how true that is...

yes I believe the V6 turbo is a low boost, it's only really there to boost torque low down - power output is below 250BHP ... GeffD will have the full details, but from memory it's at least a different crank and modified pistons ...

hi yeah your not the only person who has said the whole 250bhp max.... BUT i just cant belive it.....  saab's run very low pressure turbo's like 5-6psi i think..... and they are rated at 250bhp... cant imagine that saab run them on the limit... yes im sure they cant do much more but.......

i will simply have to find out

AH haaaaaaaaaaa ...... not good news but none the less news

the 3.0 v6 turbo made a crappy 200bhp!!! less than vaux lump but had 220 lbft instead of 199 like vaux lump....

hhmmmm must be the 2.8 v6 lump that makes 250bhp...

... sounds about right to me ... isn't the 2.8 V6 turbo the same as fitted to the vectra?

Someone mention SAAB?  Laidback will be along soon. He is the grand daddy of Saab knowledge and what he doesn't know isn't worth knowing.

Well, actually I did drive his last Saab and all I can say is a few words. Shed, Wreck, Brutal, Lethal and Sodding FAST!

Methinks you overstate things a little.  ;D
For real knowledge, talk to Marks DTM.
The Saab was rather quick though (2.3 Carlsson)... ;)

The 3.0 V6 was indeed a low blow unit and was plagued with reliability issues.
Strangely enough the V6 had lots of issues in the Saab.
There were a few modifications made to the internals but I don't know the details.

Working on it will be a real pain though because engine is pointing the wrong way. ;)
Don't try and wind up the boost much, the issue was cooling, especially around no.6 cylinder!

As for the 2.8 V6... now that has serious potential!  8-)

The saab power plant had different pistons and stronger rods (useful to note!) to lower the compression ratio and support the extra torque....

Single turbo running on one bank giving low boost....the big problem was over heating...but, that can be sorted....

The V6 bottom end is already strong....the 250bhp limit is realy down to the rods and cooling....again this could be sorted....

If it was me....I would be using a saab V6 engine with a supercharger.....modify the cooling.....and turn up the power....

now that sounds like a plan .......  ;D

so to source some saAb pistons and conrods.....

and a supercharger!!!!!

with this whole 250bhp limit  GOSPAL??? or can i run effectivly close to 250 and not worry about it???

dont want 245bhp and after 2 track days it go pop... >:(
