Hi people,
if i was to buy a new remote key (IR) , got the metal part cut to match my curant one, how would i go about programing the Ir side?

also is there a transponder chip in my key?

thanks,dont seem to be having much luck here.tried everything to do with the remote key,stripped it,cleaned it,new batt but still only unlocks the dam car,not locking or opening the boot.  stick with the key and boot button in the car for all the hassle its worth!+ £££££ on top!

Hang on a mo, you say yours is IR, yet your profile says 2000 model (RF). If RF, Tech2, or most autolocksmiths have the kit.  You will probably need your carpass...

sorry mate-lost me there. don't know what the difference is  

its a 2000 w reg facelift model. the garage i spoke to say that if i can unlock the car with the remote key,i should be able to lock also!

OK, you have a radio frequency (RF) remote, rather than the earlier infrared (IR) type.  Tech2 (or similar) required to program new remote to the car, and this will require the Immobiliser PIN code which is a 4 digit code unique to your car. These code (along with other codes such as radio) is on the 'carpass' which would have been supplied to original owner, but probably lost...

You can obtain a new car pass from the main stealers You will have to take proof of ownership of the vehical, oh and by the way expect to be bent over the counter with the cost of a bit of thin card it can vary from £16 to over £30 best bet is to ring around for the best price

I was intrigued as to why I'd never needed a new battery in my key after having it for nearly 7 years (facelift elite),  so I opened it up the other week, to look at what type of battery it took and I couldn't see a battery, just  little 'dongle'. Is this right?  :-/ if so, what is the little dongle bit?

The immobiliser transponder doesn't need power, but the rf remote locking does....
