Different Diff?
« on: 11 May 2007, 11:59:42 »

Hi,

Is it possible (im sure it is) , to put a different manufacturer diff on the back of the omega mv6?

One that has a better lsd than the mv6 one?

Surely it would just mean having a custom prop shaft made up to fit the new diff

Matt :)

You'd need to potentially build custom the prop shaft, drive shafts and mountings for the new diff, also the ABS sensors fit on the diff so they'd need to be relocated. It would be quite a task and of questionable value IMO.

If you specifically want a better LSD I would have said you'd be better off rebuilding the existing diff with Quaiffe or Tran-x internals. Not a cheap option, however, and I'm not sure they do kits for the RWD Vauxhalls anyway.

hi again... i too ventured down this route briefly....... Quaife ... dont mention anything for omega.... said they could do me an ATB for about a £million  :'(

so my next thought was holden / monaro ..... prob is finding 1 .... cant see if it fit or nor as never seen one..... the nearest i can see to it is a TVR Tuscan diff, which again is pretty much a holden diff.....

but as mention's not sure on prop . drive shaft sizes.... and mounts....... a big pain in the ass i think....

myself im thinking about tking it to a gearbox man i know and see if he can beef it up by putting more plates / better lsd effect into it??

IIRC the guy who is building the V8 rwd Astra coupe with the Pontiac GTO (LS1) engine was looking for an Omega LSD, couldnt find one so used a Monza one instead.

This would possibly be a good option to investigate

1st question i would ask is have you actually definately got a LSD on your car? It might seem crap because you havent actually got one.

I think so , when i get off the d-road where i live i have a really long , gradual sweeping bend to the left , i took that the other day at about 60-70mph and it did an absolutely perfect drift all the way round. It just after the diff was rumbling and it stunk!   Dont know if i fried it)

surly you should of shat yourself not the diff??? ;D

no seriously, that doesn't mean anything to be honest mate.... could be down to weight transfer, camber in road, speed...... etc etc etc......

diff rumbling yes meand it could of shat itself.. bearing's maybe... 1 of mine did this on track day in oct 06.. rumbled but went quiet at speed..... as for the LSD side of things nothing to make it stink really....

maybe it was tyre smell as you were lighting up inside tyre while sideways????

not sure only sure fire way of seeing if you have lsd or not is take back plate off and have a look!!!!! which isn't hard to do at all........... just make sure you have a drainer with you and about 1.2l of diff oil :y
