In my seemingly neverending quest to 'cure' my girlfriend's x20xev engine, I've just discovered some fairly alarming wiring problems in the vicinity of the injectors.
Is this a known problem area? As far as I can see, the loom running 'fore and aft' along the offside of the engine goes over/around the injector wiring in a none-too-clever way, just kind of lumped in the trunking, haphazardly. The result has been in a couple of places, 'innocent' wires running past the injector wires (at 90 degrees) have abraded with engine vibration to the point of shorting out to injector wires!! This is not good.
This explains my coolant temperature sensor fault EML, and possibly my persisting troubles. I wonder if unexpected currents from the injectors have been 'up' the CTS circuit and zapped a processor input pin? You'd think there'd be some protection, but I'm still having hot starting trouble even after carefully insulating all the places where there may have been shorts. Anyone know what resistances to expect across a healthy CTS cold and hot? I just measured 1KOhm hot, and I think it was a few K cold, but can't remember...Come to think of it, I kept the one that came out when they replaced it, time to put the kettle on... ('course that one, and the replacement could well have been damaged by 'seeing' injector voltages, and so it goes on!).
