my 2ltr does something very simular and a friend who is a very good mechanic said this is nothing to worry about, it was mot ed this weekend and we had it on the gas emmisson tester with the revs at about 3-4 thousand rpm and he said that if there was a problem it would have boiled over during this test, but im intrested to know about the fan in front of the rad i know about the one behind the rad and that kicks in when the temp reaches about 98 degres but this takes the temp down very quickly to about 92 degres so looks like tomorow i will be checking the front fan to see if this works ok

just been out and checked mine the fan in the front does the air con turn on the air con on and the fan starts up, turn off the aircon and the fan stopes so i think mine is ok, but it did have a problem with the hbv a few weeks ago it was leaking and drawing in air and that was causing it to heat up very quickly, but since replacing this it runs cooler and takes longer before the fan comes in. just when im happy with how its running something comes along and puts a doubt in my mind, i think ill check the tempreture senders tommorow and the thermostat what temp should these open at if you put them in a pan and bring it to the boil ??????

I have just had a look at mine and i only have 2 fans is this normal for a facelift ? one on the outside of the rad to the left as you look towards the car and one on the inside of the rad to the right.

I know the one on the right on the inside of the rad kicks in as soon as the air con is switched on but am i missing a fan on the right on the outside of the rad ?

Update, I have had a good look, and yes there are two fans one at front left look through the front grill, and one at the back right in front of the air con.  Mine only come on full both, when the temp hit around 98digs, or when I turn the air-con on,
Gizza, the thermostat starts to open at 92oC and is fully open at a 107oC (haynes).  How long ideling does it take for your car to get to 98digs for the fan to come on ? someone mentioned a rad switch, where is this located? and finally should the fans come on in two stages.
Thanks for the feedback guy’s.

Fan switch is under the top radiator hose.

It's not uncommon for them to get gunged up and become a bit lazy, Might be worth removing the fan switch and cleaning the surface of the sensor.

Mine only come on full both

Do you mean the rear fan doesn't come on at a slow speed, just flat out?

In that case, have a look at the white resistor under the battery. This is what gives the fan its' slow speed. Maybe the resistor has burnt out, which would mean that instead of coming on at a lower speed, at a lower temperature, it's only coming on at all when the temperature hits the high speed setting.

Hi there kevin
Yes my fans only come on at 98oC and not at low temp. I shall have a look after work for the resistor and clean the switch.
Thanks for the advice, only thing is, it's only don this sinse I've flushed the coolant, maybe I put in too much A/F. I put in about four Lts wich I think is correct for a 2.0 auto.

Thanks again

just got off the phone to a vauxhall dealer where i spoke to one of the mechanics that works on omegas alot and the 2ltrs fan is only a single stage fan comes on when the car reaches between 98-100 deg, he said if the car runs between 92-95 when moving its fine then if you stop and the temp goes up and the cooling fan kicks in before it hits 100 deg then every thing is fine, hes had 5 or 6 people in the last few mounths with omegas thinking their cooling systems are goosed but they were fine simular thing happening as with mine

Sorry for leading you up the garden path with my 2 speed fan idea!

Glad it's sorted anyway.
