« on: 07 June 2007, 18:24:39 »

... been there, done that !!!

had this problem occur on my old miggy after I'd passed it on to a family member. EXACTLY the same problem as you describe - shows you what gear you're in when the lights are off, as soon as you turn the sidelights on the gear display goes out (but the lights behind the letters and numbers are OK). The problem is that is isn't a single light - it's a series of LEDs - so unless you're an electronics whizz and can take the circuit board out and repair/replace as necessary, I'd go for the same option I did - buy a replacement display off fleabay (or a scrappy). You should be able to get one for £5-10 ...

... it would also help if you update your profile to show where you live and what omega you have - removal of the display is different for facelift models!

I think omegabob is just on about the bulb that illuminates the P,R,D,1,2,3 when you turn the headlights on.....not the led that shows which gear is selected  :-/

Not sure how to remove tho to get to the bulb.....probably just a lever out job

the backlight for the letters is still a set of LEDs, one for each position. Probably worth checking that the instrument illumination feed is present on the connector for the display, in case that's not present.

Otherwise, again unless you're an electronics expert, probably a swap-out job - they aren't pricey ...

Me too.
My replacement's not much better either. What it illuminates one day, it won't on another regardless of whether light are on or off.
