Check strap
« on: 12 June 2007, 09:51:43 »

Is there a repair when the strap bracket breaks off from the A post???? I've seen the repair for strengthening the door itself and wondered if there was something similar for the A post

I think the only answer is to get the strap bracket welded back on as there is no access to the rear of the panel.

I seem to remember someone mentioning the idea of riveting the bracket to the 'A' pillar ... but you'd still need to paint the hole drilled for the rivet to protect against rust ...

MarkDTM mentioned drilling holes in the bracket and then plug welding to replace the original spot welds.

I think a rivet would probably not be strong enough and would pull through causing further damage to the pillar.

Welding would get my vote.  Spreads the load better than rivets would.  Mine has been welded previously...

This is the car, absolutly stunning condition apart from the drivers door strap and some rust starting on the rear o/s door.

What do you think??
Or is it to much to pay for one of these? Am looking at this as i can't seem to find a MV6 manual, have been looking for over 6 months now.....

It has 4 good P3000 tyres, recent cambelt kit, some engine mods i've never seen before, ie- air intake box, extra temp sensor? extra oil cooler of some sort??? hardly any stonechips, sounds absolutly gorgous, no oil leaks from cam covers etc..etc..

I think if you have a look around for what you can get for 2 grand, you'll get more than that.  That's not to say its a bad car though.   I definitely be getting him to fix the check strap first and /or getting reduction as its not mentioned in the ad.

Personal opinion of course but all those mods are a turn off for me (but may be attractive to others).
