Oil leak on Omega 2.5 V6
« on: 09 June 2007, 16:36:48 »

MY neigh bour has an oil leak on his 2.5 V6 Omega somewhere below the camshaft cover but above the oil sump cover. After about 8-9 miles of driving it drips onto exhaust & really smells. When he pulls upat lights etc he can see smoke from bonnet (must be oil burning.)
He has to top up oil about every 180 miles pool of oil on garage floor. He's been to few garages they've all advised camshaft covers been done twice ( they're dry.) Fed up any ideas? :'(

Can't tell from your post exactly where you mean Eddy. Has he tried looking at the oil pressure sender, they have been known to come loose.

Tricky one. Camshaft covers are a regular leak point on Omegas.

If:

The replacement gaskets aren't genuine
The wrong sealant is used
The breathers aren't clear
They're not fitted properly

They will continue to leak.

Without taking anything off you can usually get a bit of a feel around the cam covers for leaks.

Pop a couple of plug leads out and see if the wells are full of oil. If so definitely cam covers.

If not the cam covers could be leaking from the oil cooler pipe work in the V valley. The garage that did the cam covers would have had the pipes exposed and should have spotted that if it was the problem.

Front of engine at bottom, to left of the aux pulley.

It will be cam covers......any oil in the plug wells.
