cam gaskets leak prevention.
« on: 22 June 2007, 13:30:53 »

Just done my cam gaskets,   8-)

I have read on a forum , either here on VXON, that you can put a pipe from the oil filler cap that will prevent the gaskets blowing.

Has anyone done this "MOD" and is it worth doing ?

seems logical enough to me!!

No, just keep the breathers clean, that will prevent it ;)

Sounds like a daft idea to me.....

Consider this....

The breathers go to the inlet and the gases are mainly blow by gases i.e. exhaust fumes with a very small amount of oil vapour in them.

Add a tube to the oil filler and let air in and you have now created a path for un-metered air to get into the inlet i.e. an air leak......hence its a daft idea.

Keep the breathers clean and change the oil regularly......stop the cause of blocked breathers and you stop the engine pressurising....

Or you could just mear gasket seal over the head to cam cover, that works really well.

When a new one is only a quid, is it worth it?
